Grab someone's wheel who is going just a shade faster than you think you can ride for the duration, then hold on.
Yup, exactly what you should do. I did that for a friend and promised her if she held on that she would be under 5 hours riding time. She was having "female problems" and felt terrible towards the end. To make our goal I was going to have to move out, so I told her to hold on ...... I averaged right around 28 mph for the last 10 miles to get us under the goal, and she held on!! Ahhhhh, those were the days! (That ride I really consider the peak of my bike fitness as I was still fresh after the century and actually thought about going out and doing the loop again ).
And don't stop long at rest stops! That will just drain you more. Be there long enough to grab some grub and refill your bottles. |
