Boston's Run to Remember 5 Mile - Run

Boston, Massachusetts
United States
Total Time = 44m 13s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 51-59F
Age Group Rank = 9/60
Pre-race routine:

java, yogurt, tunes...drive faster than should-get to venue later than planned- fret over howmany layers and what to do with extra junk!
all pretty typical!
Event warmup:

wander around gettingnumber-finding BTERs..that's all folks!
Run
  • 44m 13s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Lined up where I thought Denise & Amanda had said they would be -around 10mm pace- because I was planning to stay at that pace to just see how things went. Could not find them! So, just kind of started jogging really-easy pace, and went by how I felt, rolling on. For me- silly as it seems- emotional- just so good to be running again- and with a number on.Taking in the people- the place-the moment-It's all good..just oh so happy to be here...
What would you do differently?:

Wear shorts-find buds- but really-all ok.
Post race
Warm down:

Hr must have been up at end cuz did have transient nausea...made myself walk around- did my own little happy dance-!!! then went back to wait for Denise & Amanda..light stretching, drank some gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Goal was not about speed..Have been in Pt..Injury 12/8. ran (for bday !)12/22 3 mi, ran 2 mi on NYD then nothing til 2 days before race 3/10-easy 3 mi.Race was first run in MONTHS..so no expectations of "racing" just needed to RUN.

Event comments:

Injury is "present" but tolerable- chose to attempt a 5 mile 'fun run" just to see where I was both injury & training wise. Really wanted to enjoy the other BTers racing the 5 & 1/2 mary...ALL were awesome!Kathy G is rockin the world!Glen did a PB without really trying, Amanda is Back, Denise is cruisin, Max is his fabulous self - May is on her way to Ironwoman, Joanne is on track for a great season, Nikki is back, and sweet Capt'n Jack -mentor & Ironman in training ,met Lynette from Me..Met Glen's bud Nicole & fiance,Great to see Emily G, Mr. Capt'n & Mr. G
It's almost SPRING....
It is ALL GOOD.:)

That is awesome...I am so happy to see that you are making progress. If it's not getting worse, then it must be getting better. I can't believe how fast you ran with little training and a gimpy stem...you are going to be scarry good this year once you are at 100%
