covering the treadmill display, why?
OptionResults
I don't want any body too see how slow(or fast) I'm running
My gym limits the time on the TM and I'm going to go over it
I can't stand to see the minutes, miles tick off
I have x number of mins to run and I like to guess when I'm done
its none of your d@amn business why I coverup the display
I don't want my sweat to get on the TM, you are welcome
I don't cover it!
No place else to put the friggin' towel!
It's where I hang my towel while running on the track.
I paid alot for this towel and I want everyone to see it
Damn Papparazzi!
BEETS!
I only do hard interval sets on the treadmill, so never get bored
Keeps the Display from getting soaked in Sweat, Spit and Sometimes Blood
I put the towel over my head
Perpindicular
I can't respond to this poll due to my towel hanging over my monitor
Whats a Tread Mill
a watched pot never boils, a watched treadmill is never done the workout
I alternate speeds and slopes throughout the workout
yes, no, maybe
This is a multiple choice poll.

Every day at the gym i notice a few people with the treadmill displayed completely covered.  Why do these people do this i as myself(hey, its boring on the TM sometimes ya know)

I've come up with some ideas, buy I'm sure there are others.  So BT, what say you?

When I have had to do miles and miles on the TM the last thing I want to do is watch how slowly the distance is ticking away.

That's my reason, too.  I hate running on the treadmill and it seems to go so much slower, especially when I'm watching every second tick away.

x2.
I tend to look down about every 3 seconds at the display (O...M...G... only three seconds have passed?!). If I know it's covered up, I will inadvertantly focus on something else like music or the television. Which makes the time go much faster. Sometimes

I'm with the majority, it just gets too boring and watching the timer or the miles or even just glancing at them enhances the effect. It's nice to check at the end and see how you did so I guess the display isn't completely useless.

I don't cover the display I have just learned to ignore it by putting something worth watching on the tv and listening to the ipod.  I try and make my treadmill sessions a workout that requires changing the pace or the incline over certain distances or time which has helped the time go by as opposed to just doing constant paced runs.

When I don't cover the display, I stare at the time, which goes by really, really slow.

I'm probably in the minority in that I don't cover it. First of all, I try everything in my power to never end up on the treadmill, but if I do, I actually don't mind glancing at the time occasionally. I need constant distraction to keep going so for me, it's just another distraction.

I don't cover it...there's usually a bunny rabbit in front of me to chase, and I don't even notice the display...

I cover it so when I bang my head in frustration at how slowly I am running, at least it wipes some sweat off.

I used to cover it but don't any more. Mostly I used to cover it because whatever distance I was running was just too hard if I watched the numbers tick away. Now I don't mind so much because I'm gonna run the distance no matter what, plus they always show sportscenter on the tv so i at least have something to watch other than the miles.

I can't speak for others who do it, but I need to protect my training times/speed/HR etc from all of the competitors trying to learn my mastered treadmill training secrets... If Triathlete Magazine, Sports Illustrated, etc ever saw my data, my mysterious methods would be exploited

Actually, I'd love to see the miles and minutes tick off, but they tick too slow. I don't cover the displays, just turn off the mileage one.

I run on the treadmill at the gym only when I have to - my gym sends out people to check to see if you have been on a machine for longer than 30 minutes - so thats why I cover mine up

I have gotten off early though if someone is waiting.

I think its more a a privatcy issue.  I will admit when I am running on a treadmill I will peak at the person next to me treadmill.  Sometimes you need to when you are wearing a HRM and you want to check if its yours on your machine or theres.
