That would be awesome.  As it is, I'm on it all the time on my iphone while I'm riding the train.  I log my workouts some times from my iphone too.  An app would be awesome though!  Maybe some day!

Would love a facebook app.  Currently I'm using the Nike+ one but it's only good for running.

What better way to keep motivated than by your friends seeing your progress (or absence of any...ahem!)

We don't have any plans for a Facebook app and here's why:

  1. We haven't heard a good case for why it'd be worth our time. At least not one that makes sense.

  2. It would be a lot of time and effort spent recreating the basics of what we already have here rather than creating new stuff.

  3. To develop an app for Facebook requires learning a new programming language specific to Facebook. So unlike other programming languages/environments, the time spent learning it isn't useful in any other environment.

  4. Facebook still hasn't made a nickel in profit. That means it's a very unstable environment. They might have hundreds of millions of users and have a valuation in the billions of dollars but that just means the stakes are very high. How the people and companies providing services on their site are treated can change at any moment if someone in charge of the purse strings says "it's time to stop losing huges amounts of money every year."  We're not going to go to the trouble to develop and offer something for people to use unless we know we'll be able to continue to support it.

Ok, maybe i worded my question wrong. I was just wondering if there was a way to connect our log with facebook, like the twitter thing you have.  Even just a fan site....i guess i could make one of those I am beyond computer stupid, and Im just trying to figure it out. I don't know the details that go into it, thats why i ask.

Again, you guys do a great job. Thanks for all your hard work!

Understandable reasons.  I didn't realise the work involved.

I think between the Nike+ thing and the one that I think is in Garmin Connect, I can keep my Facebook updated.  I also found this link that gives a bunch of ways to update facebook status when not in facebook (via Firefox, sms/texting, Twitter, email, instant messenger, etc.).  Maybe there's a way to do it if I just cut/paste my workout summaries into one of those.   Or maybe a keen user might look at this source code for inspiration!

I agree that the facebook app I was thinking of was just a simple status updater; something that posts "Doug ran 16.6kms in 58m20s today" or "Doug rode xx kms today" and a link back to the BT website.

I guess there's the reason for creating this app - when people see that I'm doing lots of training and start getting interested themselves, they can jump to the BT website, see what all the fuss is about, and sign up!

Using the BT -> Twitter function there's then a way in Twitter to have your post forwarded to FB. I did this for a while but didn't like the way my post would get chopped at 140 characters; since BT isn't isn't a Twitter interface I never know where the post would get cut.

I agree I would love it if I could hit a button and it would post whatever training I did on that day to my Facebook profile.

As far as reasons for linking to facebook. It would be obvious in my mind. Friends that are seeing all your training on Facebook would be curious where you are getting your plans etc from and would hopefully click on a link (assuming that would be part of the profile post) that would take you to BT and all it's greatness. Sounds smart to me!

Anyway love all the features of BT and was thinking it would be great to share with all my friend on FB.

Cheers!

Ok, I'll look into ways to update a FB status directly without going through Twitter.

I'm a dummy when it comes to actually using FB (my online destinations are pretty much BT, Woot, my newsreader, and technical sites). Is there someplace or something beside the 'Status' that data from your training log should be displayed in?

ETA: just found the documentation for this. Not sure when we'll get to it, but it'll happen.

I use the BT>Twitter>Facebook method and it works great for me.

I'll put a short description for my workout to send to Twitter and then go back and add more detail.

This is how it show on FB:

Steve Camp Ran 3.01 miles in 28m 08s. Recovery run. Legs still sore from Saturday.

Steve Camp Ran 3.00 miles in 49m 04s. Working out with my Special Olympics group.

I don't know the ins and outs of facebook, but im pretty sure status would be the only place for it.
