Subject: Race Effort -vs- Training Effort...When I am out training, I usually push the last mile-or-so on my short runs. Sometimes I must sound like a freight train, huffing and puffing, feet slapping the ground, to others around me. But, I know this effort will make me better in the long run.
Now, my question has to do with the effort I put into the race. I plan on running most of the 5 miler I am doing at a comfortable pace but should I “close” in “full gear,” and risk scaring others away? Not that there will be many people left by the time I get around to the finish anyway.
Seriously, should I be worried about how I look/sound crossing the line or just go for my PB?
