Subject: Tri Clubs in Triangle?
Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I'm in the middle of training for my first triathlon, and I was wondering if there is a club for training in the Triangle? My web searching seems to show that there used to be but it folded? Any idea if a new one will form? It seems like it would be fun to race and train as part of a group.

There's a great group in Hillsborough, but that's kinda far away if you live in Raleigh/Cary/Apex side of town. http://www.sportsplextriclub.com

Whatever happened to RATS (Raleigh Area Tri Society) ? I have also heard that the YMCA has a tri club in Raleigh.... and for the Cary area Impact Athletics is or should be putting a  team together this fall... based on the level interest... I'm not sure how many people are involved in it though.  It is rather odd that we have SO many triathletes in the triangle, yet so few clubs... and the ones I've seen only have about 20 -30 members. what gives... maybe we're all just super independent or too busy arnd here.

For those that are interested, doing 95 - 100 mile ride on Saturday around 12:00 pm. Kids soccer games in the morning so can't go early. Usual pace is 18 - 18.5 not counting a couple of stops at convenient stores for refueling. Starting in the Apex-Cary area and heading out to Jordan Lake.

I wouldn't mind helping start up a club. I don't have a ton of time but if there is a solid group of interested people I would lend a hand. I know how to build website so that could be useful :-)

I am training for my first race and I have a lot of friends that have expressed interest in giving the sport a try but they, like me, wanted a club to be a part of...

Nuthouse,

How come the post after talking about starting a tri club is always followed by your post about a 100 miler.  It takes the steam out of guys like me.

Nice ride by the way, but you should concentrate on keeping your bike in one piece.

It seems that we have interest in starting a tri club, but noone has the time.  We should start by trying to get the group workout thing down first.

a few BTers and local triathletes got together for a bike ride on Satuday morning in the Apex area as a meet and greet ride. There were several different abilities and it was a very high spirits, no drop outing. I think everyone had a good time and wants to get together again.  I am usually out there on Saturday mornings and am always interested in meeting new people to train with.  If anyone is interested in joining/starting a group this way, let me know.  Jordan Lake and the Tobacco Trail are good central locations to meet and train.  I'd love to help if people are serious about organizing. Count me in.

Hey gang...just wanted to chime in here with my schedule.  I'm always open to meeting and learning from other area athletes.

I swim at Lifetime in Cary.  That place needs a good tri-swim class.  I'd be the first student.  I welcome learning opportunities in swimming.

I bike in the Apex/Cary/Jordan Lake/Harris Lake area, have been for years.  Nuthouse and I just got in our first ride together Saturday, even though we've ridden the IOS rides simultaneously multiple times.  Good thing he didn't see me unbolting his crank arm.   He taught me that I like Lance crackers on long rides!  I like riding with new folks, but I also have a core crowd that I've put in thousands of miles with, and we are all very comfortable with each other.

Honestly, I prefer to run solo.  It's my personal time to commune with nature.  That being said, if anyone's looking for a running partner on early Sunday mornings, let me know.  Especially in Umstead, it's good to have a friend with you when you're running pre-dawn out there.

My "normal" schedule:

Mondays for me are off days.  Except for swimming.  I consider swimming part of an off day.

Tuesdays are my first run day of the week.  Usually short (around my neighborhood), sometimes a tempo at the ATT, sometimes track work at Cary Academy.  Also I ride every Tuesday night, usually at Inside Out Sports, mostly B, sometimes A groups

Wednesday is usually just a shorter swim, and bike maintenance if needed

Thursday is a long day; am swim and run at LTF, pm ride (usually Inside Out); could also be am swim at LTF, pm brick at IOS or around my house

Friday is longer swim and easy run at LTF

Saturday is long bike.  Usually the Duke half route, or Big Woods loop, or the like.  Time is very variable.

Sunday is long run day, usually beginning 5:30-6am.  Could be ATT, but usually if it's 10 miles or more, I go to Umstead.  I have a good out and back 10.5 there, a little further out-and-back 12, a loop 14 around Turkey Creek, a 16 around Turkey Creek plus some greenway, an 18, and a couple of 20s to choose from.

The remainder of my season is Pinehurst and the ATT 10-miler, and I'm running City of Oaks with my wife at her pace (12:00/mile or so).

Hi All

I am new to the Raleigh area, living in 5 points. I am about to get started( dont actually have a bike yet) but when I get going I would love to train with people. I do have a running backround from a while back, so I am not a total newb it has just been about 5 years since I have done anything. I look forward to meeting some poeple from these parts.

I just got an email from the new TRY Sports store opening in Crabtree Valley Mall and they are starting a formal tri-training group.  $299 for membership and that includes your race of choice.  Attached is the link if you are interested.
