Goggles for contact lenses

New user 5 |  Subject: Goggles for contact lensesHad a race on Sunday and upon exiting the water (1/4 mile swim) I realized I had lost both contact lenses! Needless to say I had a tough time getting through the transitions and the bike. To make matters worse the course was really wet and I went through a turn around barrier because I could not see the turn in time. The run was fine. Can anyone recommend a good pair of goggles for contact lenses? I was using a pair of TYR, that I have used in the past, but obviously I was kicked or a wave knocked them off causing me to lose my lenses. I think I have to go to a mask model. Thanks. |

My friend who normally wears gas permeable buys some soft ones for tris. He wears one during swimming, and then has two pairs at transition just in case during the swim or bike, something unforseen happens. I personally wear prescription goggles and have prescription sunglasses. Then I don't have to be like you nor my friend. |

The other thing I did was to put my goggles on first and my swim cap on over top to prevent my goggles from being knocked off. It did create a slight issue though when I had a slight fogging up problem toward the end of the swim. I really wanted to take my goggles off and do a quick rinse, but I couldn't. Fortunately I was almost out of the water by that time so the issue was minor. |

Master 1603 Connecticut | Subject: RE: Goggles for contact lenses So long as the goggles fit well, I don't have any problems for regular swimming, but I've always worried about exactly that (losing my contacts during a race). For racing, I put the goggles on under the cap in order to reduce the chance of having them knocked off of me. Also, I always try to remember to carry an extra contact in my swim bag. It would take a little time to put in if you had to during a race, but I suppose it would still take less time than what would be lost by not being able to see. |

Master 2447 White Oak, Texas | Subject: RE: Goggles for contact lenses When I wore contacts I used the aquasphere goggles or eyes only mask if you will. i was not doing triatholons but as a Scuba instructor I did alot of swimming. They are kind of big but if i still needed contacts that is what i would wear. |

I have gas-permeable lenses and Tyr goggles, and I haven't had a problem in two years of regualr swimming and two sprint tris so far. Knock on wood. |

Extreme Veteran 316 Nashville TN | Subject: RE: Goggles for contact lenses I wear gas perms and use tyra goggles mainly but have speedo for back up. since each of my lense cost 200 I don't have spares at transition and my glasses are 500 (yes I am blind and have very expensive of both) so they don't come to a race so if I lose a lens during a race I will just stumble thru...so far no major issues and I have done both lake and pool races. |

I haven't had that problem yet (knockin' on wood) I use the Aquasphere Sealmask XP (smaller one) and Like it... My back up goggles are TYR RaceTech... (they have worked so far also) R |

| 163 | Subject: RE: Goggles for contact lenses Barracuda Standards. They dont pull on the eys or put pressure on them. People either love them or hate them as they are expensive. They have double head straps so the can give a snug fit and do not come off easy. Also foam kits to fix them up are available for about 6 dollars making them good as new. Only problem is that they take some tweaking to get a good seal with a lot of people. The eye pieces have to have the bridge adjusted, the straps made somewhat tight when first worn so they seat into your face and they are good from there on. I said expensive, about 32 dollars but now days all goggles are going it seems for 12 -16 dollars. Swimming is still a cheap sport equipment wise not counting pool fees. |

I LOVE Seal. i have soft contacts, have never had a problem with them.... make sure they fit nicely. and just incase, have your glasses with you at T1... i like that idea previously posted. | New user 5 | Subject: RE: Goggles for contact lenses Thanks for all the responses. I have purchased a pair of the Seals and they are a snug fit, they have a vacuum seal feeling. I think with this fit and putting them on under my cap, I should have no problems. |

I've lost contacts when the goggles don't form a seal around my eyes, so I always stash extra contacts in transition. |
