Subject: Moving to Denver... need help!
I am going to be moving to the Denver area at the end of August and I need to know where to start looking for a place to call home. My new office will be in Sheridan so I'd like something close but also very triathlon friendly....

So does anyone have some recommendations?

Thanks!

Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Lakewood, Golden, Morrison, Centennial, Greenwood Village and Englewood all come to mind.

Welcome to CO!  You'll love it here....working in Sheridan you will be close to a lot of great spots to live, littleton, englewood, arvada if you want to go out west and its even close enough to downtown if you're feeling the city vibe...probably what I would do if I had to do it over again...  good luck with the move!

Are you looking for a house, a condo, or an apartment?  How much are you looking to spend?

The area from Wadsworth to west of Kipling just north of Hampden has some nice spots for any of the three that I mentioned.  It's right near the Bear Creek bike path which can get you to the Platte River path or the 470 path for some decent riding.  It's close to Bear Creek park, which has some trails for running and/or biking and you can swim in Soda Lakes, I believe.  It's close to Sheridan, too.

Alternatively, the Washington Park/Platt Park/DU areas are nice, especially if you like older homes.  (I live in Platt Park, my house is 119...unfortunately it looks its age).  There are always a ton of people running and biking up at Washington Park.  It's relatively easy to get over to Platte River bike trail.

The Highlands is a cool neighborhood not too far from your new work.  It's west of downtown, but not far from downtown at all.

x2, the southwest neighborhoods put you in proximity to lots of great training areas and resources, very scenic.  On the other hand, you're further from the city.  Depends on what you're looking for...

Another consideration is how tolerant you are of commuting, and how far.

Thanks for your help everyone! You have no idea how excited I am about this move. I've always said I'd give my right arm to live in Denver... so this is pretty darn close.

You could actually live in Denver - I do and so do approximately a 1/2 million other people.

Welcome to the mile high club!

I live in Wash Park and love it - right near the park for running/biking/swimming, close to the bike paths, lots of cool shops & restaurants nearby & light rail just a few blocks away, but it's an actual neighborhood, not downtown city.  It's expensive to buy but if you're looking to rent I see a lot of for rent signs out when I'm walking Greta although it can be tough to find a place that allows pets.  Like Cathy said the Highlands is also a cool neighborhood and I like Golden a lot too.  Sheridan is a good central location so unless you want to go way north it shouldn't be too hard to commute to from most places and you might even get to go against traffic.

I'm not really a suburbs person myself but if wanted to go that route I'd probably head south/west towards Littleton or Highlands Ranch.

Welcome to Denver!  as many have  already said you have lots of nearby options as to where to live.  If you like the city Sheridan is maybe 20 minutes for downtown.  If you like the mountains, probably 20-minutes from the foothills.

I live in the Centennial/Littleton area and love it.  Near Holly and Orchard.  Kind of expensive, but quick access to the highway and easy to get around.  Also I have plenty of places to run and bike and have a rec center with a pool (Goodson) near by.  Great place for Family.

What are you looking for (Apt, House, Condo)?  Do you have a family?  Need for Schools?

I'm in Highlands Ranch, and like a lot of other covenant communities it has about everything for those 'in training'.  Four fully equpped rec centers, including 5 lap pools (3 indoor, 2 outdoor for summer); well maintained trail network throughout the community that links to the larger Denver metro trail system; well marked and maintained bike lanes on the roads; and a back country single track trail system as well.  A Half dozen bike shops are w/in 5 miles, as are the two bigger State Parks in the metro area.  Plus a reverse commute to Sheridan.

Having said all that, you could throw a dart at the SW metro map and get similar amenities/results for several communities.  And being west of I-25 keeps you mostly out of the Twister zone, but that applies to about 80% of the metro area as well.

Good Luck with the move!

Drew,
I live just south & west of Wash Park in the Platt Park neighborhood.  Where do you generally ride?  I've been doing the Platte River/Bear Creek/Cherry Creek bike paths and occasionally riding south on Clarkson to Quincy to Cherry Creek Res, but am looking for more options, especially on the street since the bike paths can be sketchy on weekends when they are crowded.
Thanks,
Bob
