Need to replace my tires. There was some discussion earlier in the season/year about favorite clincher tires. Some models I remember were Conti GP4000 and Gatorskins as well as Michelin Pro Race 3 and Krylion Carbon. Tufu's anyone?

Any feedback on how they performed/lasted? Need some input for my replacements.

The Michelin Pro3 lasts forever.  They are great training tires as well racing on.  They grip well and are fast.  I have only used Tufu on my tubular rims and so far love them.  They corner well and keep air pressure for days.

In the past I've been an outspoken fan of the Michelin Pro2Race, have a set of Pro3Race on my race wheels for over a year with no problems. However, there have been mulitiple reports of problems with the Pro3Race, enough that if I was buying new tires today I would go with the Conti GP4000.

Go with the Gatorskins only if you want/need an additional level of flat protection at the sacrifice of performance. Both the Pro3Races and the Conti GP4000s give great flat protection as well as reduced rolling resitance at a lower weight than the Gatorshins.

Never heard anything good about the Tufus.

Good timing on this post as I may have to buy a new tire today.  I've got ProRace3's on the bike now and have gotten 3 flats in the back tire in the last 20 miles plus another back tire flat maybe 200 mile previously.   I can't find any real damage, so hopefully its a little burr or something.  But if it needs replacing, I may try the GP4000 instead.

I put on a set of the ProRace 3's earlier this year and got a cut on the rear after only a few rides.  May have just been due to bad road debris - don't know.

GatorSkins are just about bomb-proof, but don't 'feel' as fast as the Michelins.

Just got back from the LBS.  Sure enough, the Pro3 had a tear in the sidewall.  Its been replaced by a GP4000.

I had a lot of issues too about two months ago and went with the bomb proof tire. I love the gatorskins and they are perfect for riding on really bad roads when you are a bit heavier on your bike.

Bontrager Race X Lite Aero TT, supposed to be the fastest TT tire around.  Pair them with some latex tubes and you are good to go : )

Fwiw, here's some feedback on Michelin Pro3 and the Continental GP4000 and Gatorskins.

I used to use the Michelin Pro3's on my tri-bike until a series of flats recently.  I used them mainly for training but also have used them for racing as well.   I suspect that I logged something like 1000-1500 miles on them (hard to tell in that I switch between tri and road bikes frequently) but noticed significant wear + nicks in the tread when changing a flat. As luck would have it, my Vittoria Diamonte Pro tires on my road bike were also threadbare and needed replacing.

For the tri-bike, I switched to the Conti GP4000. For the road bike, I switched to the Conti Gatorskins. For race wheels, I use the Conti Attack + Force (front/back). All are clinchers.

First things first, there is a definite "ride feel" difference between the Michilen Pro3 and Vittoria tires vs. the Continentals.  The Gatorskins feel like you are riding on/in a heavy Mack truck ... bulky, slow to respond and definitely riding on top of the road as opposed to with the road.    The GP4000's feel much the same way - just less so as they are somewhat more supple.

I am going to give them some additional time to break in/get used to the different ride.  If they do not "smoothen out" then the contrast between the two brands has me thinking that perhaps I will try the Vittoria Diamonte.

Gator Skins - Not a single flat in about 1000 miles, reliable as all get out. They do seem sluggish, though.

GP4000 - I love these tires. I just wore out my rear tire on one set of wheels and they lasted about 9 months of daily riding. These are my race tires and I do a lot of training rides with them as well.

Pro3Race - I flatted every single time I went out on these tires. Yes, every time. One epic ride I flatted twice within 30 miles. The shortest ride I made it 1/4 mile and then flatted. I changed out to GP4000 tires that day.

My fav clincher is Vittoria's Rubino Pro Slick.  More durable & longer wearing than ProRace, and only very slight difference in rolling resistance.  Conti's GP 4000S has generally good reputation too, though I've had horrible experiences with Conti's in past (sidewall issues in multiple tires).  Gatorskins are more durable (great training tire!) but significantly slower rolling & worse ride/handling than others listed here.

I got >5000 miles on my last two sets of Pro2Races, if the Vittorias last longer than that I'll be duly impressed. (That's what came on my P2, IIRC, though I haven't ridden those wheels in a month or so.)

haven't done a comprehensive, up-to-date comparison, but this is generally the place with the best price.

yeah, I always look at probikekit, but the Euro to $ comparison screws me up. Big difference between GP 4000, GO 4000S, GO 4000 Chili?

Look at the top left of the pages and you'll see different flag icons up there. Click on the US flag and all the prices will be in USD.

Hmmm...   no comments on the Vredstein Fortezza.

Anyone have any thoughts on them?

Not even the same tire.. The GP4000 is, in my opinion, not that good of a tire. The GP4000 S on the other hand is the tire that made me sell all my tubular wheels and stick to clinchers only. The grip is fantastic, it follows your input perfectly, and it seems to roll forever. I would not bother with any other tire (and absolutely not any other GP4000 version).

+1 on Conti GP4000.
+1 on PBK. Hassle free, and even better than ordering/receiving from a US vendor. (FAR better than Nashbar.)
+1 on Rubino Vittoria Pros, although I think the Conti GP4000 is better and definitely has gotten better reviews on bikeforums. Mine lasted a good 7 months, but I was amazed at how many small tears had developed during that time.
