I would definatly do this race but IM Lou is on the same day!!! I'm from TC, and did the East Jordan race this year and had a blast.  This should be a great race!

Hm.... I might have to consider this one, it would be a great camping weekend!  I also had to chuckle at the "Quarter Man" distance.  I've never heard that one before.  I'm not sure I'd want to be a quarter man!

There are a few quarter distance races....with that name.  I guess it all depends on how big the original man is, no?

As the local expert, how hilly will it be?

Had I known about this I would have signed up for this instead of Steelhead...Maybe I'll do 2 HIM in one month (is that crazy)?

And yeah, from my experience the hills would be more challenging than Leelanau county.

Didn't there use to be a half up there a few years back, maybe 04 or 05?

I grew up south of Petoskey about 30 miles or so.

To borrow a phrase from Birkierunner - "a bowl full of hills for breakfast"  would about sum it up.

Beautiful countryside, but definitely full o' hills.  I'd love to partake since it's so close to my home town, but I'll be at IM KY jockstrapping for my hubby.

I did Steelhead and Musselman 3 weeks apart, and did well at both. You just have to prioritize- pick one as your A race, and the other as fun. Take a full 2 days off after the first, then 3-4 days of light training, listen to your body, and have fun!

Or in Jazz's case, one as an A+ and one as an A.  I don't think Jazz has fun unless she's crushing the competition, do you?

Sounds like a great place to race, but I think we'll be in Louisville with the BT crew for volunteer duties and some major strappin.

I did the 3D Sprint in Peotoskey this summer and it was VERY hilly for the bike. The 5 mi. run was along the water for the most part, so it was flat (well, we had a little bit of a trail run too). But the bike was crazy and I only did what 14 miles.. I don't think I would do a HIM there, unless I was good at hills. The swim area was nice. Not choppy at all, it was in a protected area.

Also, I placed really well there. I am usually a 3rd place age grouper and I won my AG and finished 4th overall - so there weren't a lot of a great people there. So, you might be able to win something if you are usually an AG placer.

Absolutely you could do it. I just checked out your blog and saw your 10k times, and how much running base you've got.

Go for it!

Good luck,

Tom

This sounds like the perfect goal for me. I have yet to complete my first tri, however considering the shape Im in now and the drive I have become a true triathlete, I will see you at the starting line, and be there greeting you at the finish.

Absolutely.  I capped off my second season with a HIM, and you are starting from much better shape than I did.
