All,

Just FYI there was a very large black bear reported on the WOD this afternoon by a walker. The bear has been spotted numerous times, the last time about 10 ft off the mile 39 marker. Multiple police vehicles and the game warden are on and around the WOD looking for the bear.

MY CFO's wife spotted it about 20 feet off the WOD on her run today.

Be safe.

Wow and to think I opted to just ride near the house today instead of doing a Rt28 to Purcellville out-and-back......bike vs. bear would have made for a GREAT story!!

Holy sh*t. I live nowhere near mile marker 39, but that knocks out "nice long bike ride" for the weekend's plans.

Not me! Closest access point for me is Mile 6 or Mile 12. No bears in Falls Church/Vienna.

Dogs attacks caused 186 human deaths in the US in the last decade

Bear attacks caused 10 deaths in the US in the same time

Most of those killed by bears were in Alaska

Most of those killed by bears were hunting or fishing

Dont be scahred of the bahrs!

Uhh, this is a black bear people, not a grizzly/brown bear.

You have NOTHING to worry about unless you're jerking around with their cubs, or have some food they want, even if they want your food just give it to them.

If confronted by a black bear, you can scream or make any loud noises and it will go away; they scare off easily.  (DON'T DO THIS TO A BROWN BEAR, just avoid eye contact and creep away as cautiously as possible)

I actually had a black bear enter my tent while camping once in NC.  NOT A BIG DEAL.

ENJOY

They probably love Gu, but they are too timid to attack a person for some gu.

Yeah, that would not be the smartest move, but I would love to see it!  In fact, I think we should get a pool of money together to offer someone to go and do it; I've got a nice cam corder to film the whole thing in HD.
