Yesterday I was in the Trek store. Happycow was getting a new bike and I was chasing the little redheads around. While I was running through the store I noticed a pair of bike shorts for $199.00. I haven't paid for shorts in 2 years and had no idea shorts cost that much. How much would you pay for a pair of bike shorts? That just seemed too high for shorts. Am I wrong???

i agree.  too much.

besides, more expensive bike shorts don't mean more comfort.  i've proven that with my stupid saddle sores i got for my top end izumis.

Yeah, way too much. I stick with low-end Performance brand shorts (~$20 on sale) or Voler shorts and bibs(~$45 on sale). I've tried more expensive shorts, didn't find a whole lot of difference in comfort or performance, certainly don't last any longer.

20-30 Dollars.

I bought an almost no-name brand at a local sports store, and they are the most comfortable I have ever ridden in. $ 15 on sale from $20.

Man- I am geting ripped off!  I just bought a new pair of Pearl Izumi Women's bike shorts the other day at the bike shop.  I think they were around $64 but I got them at only $50 because I bought some jerseys and know the owner.  And I thought I got a deal... I would never pay more than $50-$60 for bike shorts.

LOL! If they did, I think I'd ride my bike more!!!!

I bought my first pair of Performance shorts for ~$20. They were fine, but after I left them on the floor while showering and my puppy ate the chamois out of them (ewwwwwww...), I decided to upgrade. The $60 I paid for some Pearl Izumi shorts was definitely worth it. I don't think I could justify much over that, though.

Bike shorts are too damn expensive. I have a couple pair and have resorted to doing all my riding in tri shorts. My faves are my QR Pinnacle shorts. The pad dries so fast, and it fits awesome. They are my lucky race shorts. I even wear them in running only races. 6" inseam to show off my awesome quads... .these shorts are the sh!t! I think they were like $40-$50 even. I want more!!!

When my wife bought her first pair, she went into a LBS and paid $75 for a pair of PI's off the rack.  When she told me, I told her to take them back.  The $20-45 Performance/ Nashbar shorts are just fine.

She did take them back and found the exact same shorts on e-bay for $25.  Since then, I've kept an eye out for good deals on bike clothes on e-bay.

slovegreen, go to mapelwood bike shop, they have one of the best bike fitters there. He was trained by team discos guy. (if you ever get a new bike or need yours fitted) That bike shop is like a 10/10. They have a lot of cyclists that work there so they know wht theyr talking about.
