Veteran 215 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi! I am in with ya! Will be my first IM. It consumes most of my thoughts on any given day the hard part will be BALANCING my home life and training. My boyfriend isn't exactly thrilled about it. I was recently diagnesed with grade iv medial tibial stress syndrome and a very small stress fracture in my tibia so i am really bummed. My running was coming alon so nicely then this. But i have been doing the Pzitzinger deep water running so i hope that will hold me over until i can run in 5-7 weeks. will this be you first? Lesley |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I did IMFL in 2007...and excited to be doing it in 09. You have PLENTY of time to let it consume your thoughts!! Just heal properly and get back to running when you can. You don't want to burn out - keep the race in your mind's eye...but don't let it take over your life, at least not yet. I work part time, homeschool my 12 and 9 year old, have a hubby and 2 dogs...my best advice is to learn how to be ORGANIZED. It will save you lots of time in the long run. Oh, and ENJOY!!! To me, the Ironman is more about the journey than the actual race |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread ^^^Definitely let yourself heal! Now is the time to deal with that. There are several people that have used aqua jogging to supplement when they have had leg issues and it has helped them a lot! Get healthy! I am pumped about the journey, and in essence, for me it has already started--I use it for my motivation when the wind is beating me up on the bike, or I don't want to roll out of bed...I keep telling myself, do it for the Ironman. Yes, it will be my first Ironman and I am EXCITED!! Looking forward to the next 11 months of training "with" all of y'all. It will be a challenge to get it all in with my job--I stay fairly busy...but that's all part of that journey!

Extreme Veteran 536 Russiaville, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi everyone, I also did IMFL in 2007 and am looking forward to 2009 to race it this time. One thing I can say is do get too caught up in the training yet, you will burn out. I remember last year around October I was ready for the race to be over. I'm going to start my HIM plan in Feb and after my Half in July I will start the IMFL training. Remember you have a lot of time so heal up and keep your self fresh for next years training. good luck everyone, Ron |

New user 35 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread This will be my first IM. I am currently doing an 8 week base period for the New Orleans 70.3 in April. I plan to take a couple weeks off after that race to rejuvenate and then start back at the base period for IMFL. I know it is a long season but I think with discipline and taking the rest period in between the 2 "A" races I should be in good shape.
Good luck everyone.

Extreme Veteran 399 Long Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi Everybody! I'm with all the first timers - still can't believe I actually signed up. Taking a very long off-season, will have my usual NYC Oly in late July, take a few weeks and then start back at the IM plan full force. Completed my first HIM in October 08. Mostly worried about over training cause of the late date. I think about it everyday too -looking forward to watching and taping the Televised Ironman this coming weekend - Happy training |

Veteran 210 Knoxville | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Another first timer here. I'm interested to know whether or not this is your first time and why you chose to do an Ironman? Also, what are your plans for between now and when it time time to start training for IMFL 09? After discovering my love for triathlon, I decided that the time was right for an Ironman. Right now, I am able to dedicate the time required to train. Ultimately, I am attracted to the extremeness on Ironman and I want to see what I am capabale of. For now, I'm in the middle of my running season which will wrap up in mid-january with a marathon. Then, after a break, I'll focusing on a half iron in May then IMFL after that.

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread First time IM too. I'm currently sidelined from running for the next 6 weeks due to a cycling accident in October. The Dr. said I have a severe bone bruise. The back of my knee was run over and my beloved Colnago carbon frame was smashed. The 2009 season was planned prior to finding out about the 6 week layoff. I read somewhere that Patience was the 4th discipline of triathlon.

This is my second. I did IMFL in 07. Took last year off to please the family, but not sure I can do that again! We'll see how this year goes. I sort of fell into it - a natural progression-and did it as a fundraiser for MDA. I'll be raising funds again this year, and trying to set a PR. In the mean time, I think I'm going to do some Half Mary trail runs this winter, then gear up for St. Anthony's Oly in April, Rock n Rollman HIM end of May (up your way) and then I'm not sure what between May and Nov...maybe just a lot of training I love the looooong bike rides and can't wait to get into those again...actually I love all the long stuff |

I'm laying low for another month or so and the I'll slowly get back into the s/b/r lifestyle. 10 hours per week by mid-June, then really ramp up the distance. Looking forward to it! Good luck all! |

Expert 764 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread This will be my 2nd IM. I finished IMAZ 08 (April) in just under 16 hrs...disastrous race, but I finished! My goal is to finish sub-14:00 this time. I think it's viable, since most of that wasted time in April was spent dealing w/ the effects of the heat and wind (30 min T2 ice bath, anyone?) and trying to run on a just-healed stress fracture. This year's theme is healthy, healthy, healthy! I may buy a base training plan just to make sure I'm properly conditioned to start training in the spring. |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hello all, New triathlete here. I am a recovering fatman registered to race IMFL 2009. My little brother raced in IMNZ 2008 and that got me motivated to get off my 30 year old overweight behind and get in shape. I finished my first marathon last month. It may have taken me a little over 5 hours to do it but it felt pretty good for someone who couldn't run 2 miles 12 months ago. I definately put the "slow" in slowtwitch. I am a 9-10 pace kinda guy. Yesterday I ran six miles and decided to sprint the last lap. According to Garmin I never broke a 6:40 pace. That was me at a dead sprint. I don't know how you fast people do it, especially over a long distance but my hat's off to you. I fell like I can go forever at my 9-10 pace but as soon as I speed up I fall apart fast. By the way DitchDoc I am also a paramedic. At least I assume you are a medic looking at your name. I work in a fire department over near Atlanta. Good luck to everyone. I will see ya in November.

Triathlete Nation ~ Texas! | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread ~ IMFL '09 ~ This will be my first as well... I am looking forward to adding the 140.6 to my life's resume. This past year's training and racing at the sprint, olympic and half-iron distances has allowed me to get into the shape I was in as a 21yr old Marine... That's a cool feeling at 39! In early 2006, I weighed in at a hefty 230 (41.5 inch waist) with back problems, etc... Now at 175, 31" waist and running a consistent sub 7 pace for a 10k, I can't wait for my IMFL journey to begin. I am excited and finding it hard to pull back on the training reins. I am doing some off-season training (mostly running - 26.2 in January), but I am anxious to get started on the road towards Florida. I hope to see many of you on that same road...
