Extreme Veteran  569   Austin, TX |  Subject: It's the engine that counts, right?I sure hope so! Behold my race bike in all its awesomeness....1992 Trek 1420. Highlights include triple chainring, 7-speed cassette, 105 downtube shifters converted into bar-ends, and a very manly purple color scheme.  I've done a Sprint and Olympic with this bike so far (last year). I plan to complete 2 more Olympics and a HIM this year on it. The base bar and aero bars are new this year. I had standard road drop bars and downtube shifters before. Still need to get everything dialed in... So whaddaya think? Edited by Tyrell 2009-06-21 5:31 PM |

However with if this bike began to pass me I would be so in awe of its retro coolness I would forget to pedal momentarily. I do love riding this bike. It still amazes me how old it is yet it still functions perfectly well. And thank you again to my father-in-law for giving me this old bike when he upgraded. |

Here it is in kiddie-trailer-mode with pedal flats for sneaks: A 1982 cro-mo steel Miyata 710 with the original Suntour friction derailleur and downtube shifters! The only modification was Ultegra brakes which I drilled out the original handlebar to do some home-made internal cable routing. And YES I still have it and YES I still ride it! |

Be proud of your steed baby!The only people who passed me at my last race on my fancy Cervelo were people on fancy Cervelos, Felts, and Scotts.  To the OP--Get into a good position and you'll be within a few seconds of the fancy bikes. A Profile Fast Forward seatpost might help with that, because I agree, it looks like a LONG reach to your bars.  |

I've spent some time in front of (well, beside) the camera and tripod a couple days ago adjusting the saddle position and I'm about to the end of the seat rails after moving the saddle fwd. I also moved the aero bar ski-tips back towards the saddle about 10mm....may move them about 5mm further back. More riding will help me decide for sure. |

Try the post first--you may find yourself moving the extensions back out a bit to where they belong. Apparently a steeper, i.e. 78-degree seat tube angle (what the post effectively makes it) is better for saving your legs for the run too. |
