Subject: tri shop in south or central ontario ?
I only discovered triathlons a year before the awesome tri shop I bought most of my gear at closed. I was very sad when I found out it closed. I had not yet bought a wetsuit I ended up buying one online in a panic when I heard a sept tri might be wetsuit mandatory and the company shipped me the wrong suit. I need to find a store in ontario that is decent for amateurs and carries wetsuits I can try on. I travel for work and can swing be stores anywhere from Windsor to toronto to Barrie to Niagara Falls ... Anyone know of a decent store?

It's tough there really isn't one around. There are some running stores and bike stores that help a bit more or have a bit more triathlon stuff. I am stuck right in between Windsor London and had Just bought a bike from same store right before it closed.

Is there anything your looking for in particular. I bought an xterra wetsuit online as well and I am short and stocky. However I called them first to discuss measurements and confirm my suit. They were great on the phone and they have sales on all the time.

With that said it depends what you are looking for. Only then could I recommend a place.. ie bike, running etc.

If you can travel that distance that is a definite plus. Google can be your best friend. There are all kinds of running or cycle stores in Southern Ontario and someone is always having a sale.

For wetsuits, check out local SCUBA shops. In region of Waterloo, both scuba shops I have gone to both carry wetsuits for Triathlon. Not a big selection, but they carried a couple lines. (I bought mine at allwetwatersports a couple years ago...but alas they closed down too.)

Some of my successful shops I've found good deals at:

Saucony Store in St. Jacobs Outlet Mall: Inexpensive shoes, and Tri suits. I mean crazy cheap. I paid $40 bucks for one piece tri suits, and $20 for tri shorts. Bought a pair of Saucony kinvara III shoes for $40 bucks. They always seem to have deals going on and for the most part are well stocked.

These guys carry tri wetsuits in Kitchener. If you check out other scuba shops, I'm sure you can find other deals with better pricing and maybe closer to any routes you travel:

Good luck. I know there is/was a specific Triathlon Store in London, ON. I dont know if it is there anymore, but there prices were insanely expensive. Your almost better just shopping around to see whats out there. I bought my bike in Mississauga, westuit in Waterloo, bike components in Burlington, and Tri suit, in St. Jacobs... Saved a huge amount of $$$.

Good luck, hope someone else can post re: wetsuits.

Hi Carolyn,

If your travels are taking you into the Niagara region I would strongly recommend Trysport Niagara. Wolf Guembel (pro triathlete) and his wife Barb own the store and are very customer focused. They are in St. Catharines 17 Lock Street, St. Catharines, (905) 934-2879.

The other store would be D'Ornellas in Scarborough. You can ask for Eon or his daughter Lori-Ann. Again very customer focused store. The are in the Eglinton and Pharmacy are. 416-752-3838.

Both stores support our series and carry inventory that will give you plenty of choices. Please let them know John Salt sent you.

And not sure how long you can wait but races will have shops right at the race site.  If any races are local to you.  It's kind of a specific time/place sort of thing but things are usually on sale as well - they're usually there all weekend with the races so you can race/volunteer or just watch and check out what's there.

So, in that sort of area are Lakeside, Woodstock, Milton (not so central), and Guelph.

I would highly recommend endurosport in Toronto. I bought the cheapest bike in the shop (Cervelo P1) and they went to great lengths to ensure I have the bike set up for me correctly. They actually built me a 52 and a 54 as I was between sizes and had me ride both before going into the detailed fitting which took over an hour to get it dialed in perfectly. It made me feel as I had just bought a P5 - I was very impressed. They also had a decent selection of wetsuits, shoes and tri gear.

Thank you for the suggestions. I should have remembered those stores from seeing them associated with the first Multisport Canada race series triathlon I tried (last fall)... Most of my internet searches have brought up either stores that have closed (triathlon clubs websites aren't usually up to date) or online only stores.

I have picked up some of my gear at race expos before my husband's running races (as some multisport stores show up to those), but I find it very difficult to try to shop for anything complicated (like a wetsuit) the day of my own triathlons as my brain is having a hard enough time juggling my gear and my young kids who come to cheer.

Thank you for the suggestion of a Toronto store. I had done a search for Toronto stores and not found this one as having any wetsuits, so good to know it does carry some.

Right now, I've found a helpful bike shop and running store, just need a wetsuit and occasional tri focused gear like watches that work underwater (lost mine) and also running, a tri bag, etc...

I don't have a clue why I didn't think of this. If I you are in Kitchner go and see Tri-City Scuba. I have been a scuba diver for years and I do dive with the one shop owner from there a couple times a year.

Ask for Andrew tell him Chris Bell sent you. He is also into triathlons. He picked the sport up a few years back and we were just talking about races the other day and me getting back into triathlon to shave off this gained weight and make sure I fit in my scuba suit this season.

But I think of him as a dive buddy so much. I tend to forget about the scuba shop as well. If he doesn't have something I am sure he would be willing to get something and make sure it fits.

He ordered me in some specialty items for dive gear. And prices were great. Mind you he comes on my dive trips for deeper technical dives that I run.

You'll love that many of the chains now carry the watches.  I already had a great Garmin 310XT but wanted swimming features and my hubby was able to get me the Garmin swim at Sport Chek last Christmas.

And if you're more in central Ontario Running Free stores are great. I've found they have a great selection of tri stuff. Bought several swim related things there.

Several years ago I rented a wetsuit from Foottools in Burlington.  I see from their website that they continue to rent and sell wetsuits:

http://foottools.ca/products/wetsuits/

I recall that they have new wetsuits for sale as well as last year's rentals at a discount.

Good luck.

Trisport Niagara is very nice. A well laid out store (a little small) and the family service that is sometimes missing from some some local bike stores.

The stock nineteen westuits, desoto tri gear, speedo swim stuff, shimano bike accessories and other brands. Not a big bike selection but the focus is on aero wheels and tri specific gear.

If you make the stop in St Catharines then only a few miles from Trisport are Bikefit (main Trek and Louis Garneau stockist) and a little further away is Liberty! which has Specialised, Cannondale, Argon18 and Felt on the racks and is like a candy store.

Swim & Sports in Mississauga is great for wetsuits. You could rent from the shop too. They will also ship the rental if you live at a distance, or you could pick it up/return on race day if it is a race the shop will be at. At the end of season the old rentals go on sale so you could buy them for a fraction of the cost. I rented the first season I did tri's and then was able to purchase the same brand and size I had been using all summer at the end of the season. They of course also sell brand new suits. The owner is super helpful and nice and tells you exactly how the suit should fit.

Love Trysport Niagara in St. Catharines, there is Trysport Ontario- they have stores in Parry Sound and Huntsville. I got a great deal on a wetsuit from the endurosport outlet in Toronto last summer.

Lots of stores out there, just need to know where to look.

Du Tri and Run in streetsville is very good. They are usually at the Subaru and Multisport events with a tent.

Hi Carolyn,

I've had some great luck with Runner's Choice in Waterloo. Definitely worth checking out if you're in K-W and for a fairly small store, they're well stocked.

Those are amazing deals! and then afterwards you can stop at the St Jacobs farmers market for a celebratory apple fritter!!! (If it has been rebuilt since the fire of course, havent been in too long)

very late to the party. I am very sad about MSZ too. Jeff (the owner) coached me to my two Ironman finishes.

I bought my wetsuit years ago at Endurosport in Toronto. I was off the fitting scale weight wise (still am) and wanted to make sure that the women's XL fit before purchasing.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! I am slowly making the rounds of the different stores suggested by everyone. I also found a Running Free store as well that had a very decent triathlon selection based on its size. While I will still missing the London store, at least I now have (a lot) of options and will hopefully be able to find a wetsuit before the season starts. As, despite someone's request in another forum, I doubt anyone will find a way to heat the lakes before the races anytime soon.
