![]() Super. There are six pairs of clipless pedals in our house, and three of them are recalled! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have two pair of Keo Carbons. One of them is in the recalled group for sure. I will have to check the other pair when I am in Atlanta. Thanks for the notice.

![]() Great, I bought mine in May of 2007 - Keo Classics. Will have to check them when I get home. I really don't have even $100 extra to get new ones right now. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How would they "repair" these pedals? I suspect they would just look to replace them with a newer model? On the bright side, now is the perfect time to switch to Speedplays! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for posting this. Mine are Look KeO Carbon and Sprint... So, what do we do in the meantime? Last time I sent in stuff for a recall (Kryptonite locks) it took them months to return the new ones! Might have to spend more time on the old MTB... |

I really don't have even $100 extra to get new ones right now. Check the web page. The recall only affects pedals produced from Jan 2004 – Dec 2005, so it probably does not affect you. The web page shows where the production date code is imprinted on the pedals. And, there is no pain to the customer. Look is replacing the axles of the recalled pedals free of charge. TW |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You don't have to go back to your original dealer. According to the web page, you may take your pedals to the "nearest Authorized Keo Axle Replacement Dealer". Based on the way it is phrased, I would guess that the axle replacement can be done by the dealer. I will find out soon and let you know how long it takes. I have a pair of platform pedals that I use for intown commuting if they have to ship them off. TW

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I checked on their website: the nearest authorized dealer is 2 hours away for me! I got all upset, then decided to check the dates on my pedals: after the recall. Yeah. I thought since I had bought them on eBay they must sure have been the older ones. But I'm lucky they weren't. |

TW From what was posted int he recall notice: Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycle pedals and return them to the place of purchase, or contact Look Cycle USA to arrange for shipping and free repair. edit: website has different info. BUt yeah, closes dealer is in Atlanta, 140 miles away. So, that's gonna cost me 10 gallons of gas, or about 40 bucks and a wasted day to get them fixed. Either that, or at least 2 weeks while I wait for them to come back from Look. Awesome. Edited by run4yrlif 2008-08-06 9:17 AM |

TW Well, it said they were sold up until July of 2007 (I bought mine in May or June of 2007). So it's possible. I know it wouldn't cost me anything eventually, but I have a race in September that I REALLY need to be training for, esp. on the bike, and I don't have another road bike or extra clipless pedals. So I'd have to get something in the meantime. Arg...I couldn't find the date stamped on the pedal, so I will have to look on the website to make sure I'm searching in the right place. Look on the bottom of the pedal. There is a circular stamp with numbers 1 through 12 around the perimeter, an arrow in the center, and two single digits on either side of the arrow. The arrow points to the month of production. The two digits in the center indicate the year. I'm guessing yours will say 0 6 and you are golden. TW Edited by tech_geezer 2008-08-06 9:44 AM |

Hey Chas from Look, Thanks for popping in and clearing things up. I appreciate both the voluntary response to the potential problem and your efforts to get the new axles out to people with a minimum of hassle. I am actually going to just ride mine until I can get to Atlanta to have them serviced. TW |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For those of you who have indicated the repair dealers are a bit of a drive for you, make sure you call first. I just called a couple stores here in Chicago and one is listed as an repair/upgrade dealer but didn't even know about the recall and told me they would need to order the part and ship it somewhere, etc because they didn't know what I was talking about. The other said, "Umm, yeah, I think I heard about that. And Keo did just send us a bunch of stuff with some warranty stuff." Apparently although the word is getting out to riders, it's not getting out to all the bike stores that are supposed to be doing the repairs. |
