Lion Vs Hyena Who you like?

Had to go with Hyena, if for no other reason than to be the contrarian.

I am, after all, just here for an argument.

One on One-Lion.

But the Hyena are the criminal street gang of the animal kingdom.

Also I think the Hyena would be carrying an AR15. (Ha ,now it's a gun thread!)

Lions often hunt in packs (prides?) don't they? I'm going Lion.

I guess it depends on whether we're talking Madagascar lions with full-on Jazz Hands, or Mufasa in Lion King scaring off a whole pack with a roar.  I think the real ones have jazz hands, so I'm staying with Hyenas as my choice.

Head up I'll take the Lion.

A lot of the animal violence I've seen on the tele where the Hyena's have an advantage is against a single Lion vs a pack of Hyena. I've never seen the Lion injured but usually is forced to give up it's dinner, even in those situations I think it's more likely that a Hyena will get injured before the Lion does.

I'd take a single Male Lion vs up to 10 hyenas.  I'd take a Female Lioness vs 6 hyenas. 

Male Lion weighs ~500 lbs. 

Hyenas have some massive teeth, but lions have the reach with those razors on their feet. 

Fact is that predators do a cost/benefit analysis before they attack to say "how much harder will it be to feed myself tomorrow/next week if I go after this food?"  If the ratio is <1 they go for it.  >1, they flee.  That's why Lions don't mess with Giraffes...

Hyenas hunt in packs too--also, like lions, females truly run things in the groups. 

I have worked with both, and the lions are pretty much jerks who do whatever they want--especially when you would rather they do something else...in other words...they are CATS; but the hyenas I have worked with were incredibly smart, and actually quite friendly and loyal. A lot of the press about them is simply not true. they are amazing creatures. 

btw. in a straight up, 1 on 1 fight, the hyena would take it--crazy strong jaws, and better endurance than lions.

Lions really don't live in the jungle.  

I like it. Large pack of Hyenas attack the female lions and take their kill. The females yell for big daddy and he comes over and kills the first Hyena he sees.

i'm pretty sure there's a reason why the hyenas eat the lion's leftovers....

now, a pack of hyenas against a lone lion.....i'll need to hedge that bet with the cheetah over the gazelle.
