I am considering buying a Felt F75 or F85 as my first 'real' road bike.  I'm new to triathlon and have pretty much decided to go with a road bike instead of tri model.  Basically, I was wondering if any of you have ridden these models or could provide any advice.  Any suggestions on other models ~$1000-1500 would be welcome as well; these just happened to be the two at the top of my list so far.  Thanks for the help!

I ride a couple year old F55 and don't have any complaints. Realistically, I think you'll get a pretty solid bike for your money from any of the major bike manufacturers. Felt used to be noticeably cheaper than the competition, but that seemed to change last year, and now they are priced about the same as everyone else for roughly similar spec'd bikes. The F75 and F85 will be good enough bikes for you to train effectively, and assuming you work on the engine sufficiently, you will be able to compete with people on much more expensive bikes.

I'm sure you've read all the threads on here about it, but personally, if I were to do it over again, I would buy a tri bike instead.

My wife and I bought Felts (F60 and F65) back in '05 to start riding and doing tris. Great bang for the buck and solid bikes with no issues so far! Love riding my F65 and have been using it for sprint and oly tris with clip-on aero bars. Other than a lame engine, the bike is plenty fast to be competitive. Went in looking for an F75 (cool yellow color back then) but the ride on the F65 was so much smoother, so I would definitely recommend riding a few models in your price range (of course if they are all Felts they will fit the same) to see which one rides the best for you. Hopefully in the next year I'll get a Felt tri-bike! Good luck!

I have an F75 which I purchased in April and I love it. I had the full floating type speedplay pedals put on it and that was it. It has been a very reliable bike, to date, and I was told that it is a very good mid-level road bike which was great for me since I am a rookie.

I have a 2007 F75 and love it.  It's been a great bike for me, and I've been really happy with it in all my races so far.  It's my second road bike, and I really thought the Felt gave me the most bang for my buck.  I don't think you could go wrong if it fits you well!

I had an older Felt road bike when I first started and it was a good bike. I have a Felt B2 Pro right now, but I just switched back to my Scott Plasma for the last race that I did. I don't know what size you are (I am 6'3 170) but from what I have found and heard from other riders is that Felts are not as stiff and you waste alot of power that is dissapated throughout the frame instead of going to the crank and by extension the road. "Noodley" is the one term that I have heard that seems to sum up the frame.

ETA: They are great bikes though! I recommend them to my athletes all the time.

'06 T23 here, but just switched to basebar/aerobar/bar-end-shifter setup from the road bars. Love it, no issues at all.

Would you say that your B2 is "noodly". The B2 is at or near the top of my list. I'm 6' 5" 225 so of course I'm always concerned about putting too much weight on a bike.

Not noodly at all.  Mine is stiff enough for climbing but not too harsh.

I've got a 2006 F65.  Great bike for the money.  I was looking for an F75 last spring and got a deal on the new old stock 2006 with better components so I went for it.  Only upgrade was replacing the no-name brake calipers.  Ultegras greatly improved the modulation.  Other than that it's a nicely spec'd bike.

I wouldn't call it noodley, but I wouldn't mind if it was a bit stiffer.  That said, it's plenty comfy for long rides.
