Done that. Also came down a hill in the rain, turned into the garage and discovered the brakes don't work so well when wet. But hey, drywall is easily fixed anyway...

I fell over once to avoid running into the back of a car at a stop sign. Dude pulled up, stopped, let off the brake but then just sat there. WTF?

bruised ego. bruised knuckles and shoulder from ramming into his car

It's pouring rain out and I'd noticed a squeak so I stared down at my pedals to see what it was-  and then WHACK!, lol

The guy was very nice, and I was super apologetic because it was obviously my fault!  he laughed.  I'm sure my face was a nice shade of hot pink.

Don't worry you are not alone. Mine was a minivan. Destroyed my bike, and a trip to the ER to get stitched up!

That's usually about how it happens. Mine was when I was riding along and noticed some smoking hot girls strolling on the other side of the road. I turned my head to smile at them, waved and WHAM! back of a pickup truck.

We were riding in Herman Park in Houston back when they had a perfect criterium loop.  It was  on  a week day early and the park was deserted.  There was a rule that bicyclists couldn't use the inside lane of the loop since in the past there had been maybe a 100 cyclists racing wildly on the 1 mile loop.  I was riding and passed another cyclist.  He jumped and flew by me.  The gauntlet had been dropped.  I powered to get ahead of him.  I am the fastest cyclists on this route, I thought.  No I am the fastest the other rider thought.  In our zeal we ventured into the forbidden inside lane.  The park policeman saw us and went wild.  He flew by us and turned his car diagonally in front of us to block us. He seriously underestimated our speed and stopping distances.  We both plowed into his car but due to it being at an angle I hit with my right hip and slip all the way up to his spotlight.  It put me in the awkward position of looking straight down at him while still sitting upright on my bike.  I didn't have a scratch on me nor did his car.  After a painful 20 or 30 seconds of silence, I saw beads of sweat start forming on his forehead.  I asked if there was a problem.  He told us we needed to stay out of the inside lane.  I agreed that we would.  We rode off and from that point forward there was peace between the park police and cyclists.

been there. i pulled up to the light, misjudged an uphill with a small depression in the paving and down i went hitting the passenger door of a sedan on the way down. I'm lying in the road still clipped to the bike when the passenger rolls down the window and leans out to look down straight at me.  I mumbled a quick "sorry" and jumped up as fast as i could. But the look on her face was priceless (if I could have appreciated at the time). I'd say her look was more WTF, than "really?!!".

When I was in high school I was going as fast as I could on my new 10 speed. Had my head down standing and pumping the peddles. Ran directly into the back of a bread truck. Lucky for me I had my helmet on. When I woke up I had a nice headache and a nice set of bruises on my legs from the handlebars.

I knew someone that hit a stopped vehicle (he was going downhill and there might have been a curve involved - it has been a while) and he had serious, serious injuries.  Took him like a year to recover and another year after that to get back on his bike.   The stories here have mostly been to laugh at, but it isn't always that way.  Scary.  (Although I loved this story about the park police officer!)

I did that when I was a kid.  I was busy trying to look cool on my new 10-speed or something, wasn't paying attention and hit the neighbors car that was parked on the street.  I flew forward and got a huge gash on my knee from the pedal....I tore my favorite yellow pants and I still have a scar there.  Fortunately, no one saw me!  (I think!

When I was a kid my brother would steer me into parked cars by grabbing my handlebars at the last second then riding me into the car, basically, then laugh when I wrecked. We had no idea how dangerous it was. And then there was the time he and his friends told me to ride a bike with no chain (back when brakes were on the chain) down this huge hill on a gravel road by our house. I did, couldn't make the turn at the bottom, flew headlong into a forest and boucned off the seat and onto the crossbar. Ow.

There is a BTer that crashed into cars twice at the same location and did major damage to the cars. Maybe he'll chime in...

Not the same thing, but an Indiana State Trooper darn near...like inches...ran into my back end on I-69 yesterday then got ahead of me and did the same thing to another car.  i think he was in pursuit without kights or sirens.
