Subject: The Wall Tour

I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, and to this day regret not being able to get tickets for the original Wall Tour when I was in high school.

I am not such a big Roger Waters fan but he is doing The Wall tour in 2012 and I am thinking about going. My son is also a big PF fan and I would take him. The concert is staged at the ball park, and right now it's also the last stop of the tour. Tickets are $253 for the field, $129 for first level. I cannot see spending $506 for tickets, but if it would be a spectacular show I could maybe see $258 (plus all the usual charges).

Has anyone seen the previous Wall tour and have an opinion? David Gilmour will not be the guitarist on this tour. If he was, there'd be no hesitation.

I also was about 13 or so when it first played,  and missed it.

Went to all three nights in Los Angeles.  It was freaking amazing.   I bought seats for one night a few months in advance for one show at face value.   But on the opening night here I went to stubhub and got an 8th row seat for about $300 about two hours before the show.  Wasn't going to, but went online the next night and got 3d row for about $250 an hour before the show.  Sat stage left floor, stage right floor and stage right up in the loge seats abut 20 rows up.  Being close was cool, but this isn't a show where seeing the band is critical.   Although it was cool feeling the whoosh of air as the wall came down when I was 3d row, I saw and heard more sitting further back.   About 1/2 - 3/4 way back would be good.  Not sure how it will play in stadiums.

If it's the same staging, the flying pig will come from stage right.   I have to say, one of my best concert moments ever was having the pig flying 10 feet over my head as they played Run Like Hell.   I am not a huge RW fan either, but the Wall is really all him (with a couple exceptions)

Gilmour did play one show as was rumoured, but that turned out to be in London

I took my wife for the third show and she really enjoyed it even though she isn't a PF fan.  It's more theater than concert.  One cool thing, there was a full Indian family sitting next to me 3d row, grandma, parents, and a girl about 11.   She sang all the songs, said it was the best night of her life ever.  that was pretty cool. If your kid's a fan, I'd definitely take him.  And splurge a little bit.

Not sure if I will go when it comes to the Coliseum, but probably will

Art and entertainment, and you'll probably get stoned just standing there.  I don't see why you wouldn't go?  Might be your last chance too.  I went and saw all of the bands I missed as a kid, (Stones, The Boss, etc.. )  Enjoyed every one of them.  (I also do not need to be close to the stage, so cheaper tickets for me..)

Saw this show in London in the spring of this year. It was by far the best concert experience I have been to.

I was in the stands about 60 seats up but fairly close to the stage. With todays sound technology the sound was spectacular!

They have Vancouver on the 2012 tour and I will definitely be going again.

Well I could sit front and center on the field for $320 a ticket. Times two. Or I could sit back on the field for $199 a ticket. Tickets in the stands for the first level are the same price. Think it's better to be further away looking down at the stage or closer but looking up?

Seen it last year, will probabley go back this summer.  I seen Roger a few years back also.  Spend the money and go see it.  In this day of crap music, these real musicians are dying off.

Further, like I said if you could get about 1/2 way back would be good.   But he hasn't yet staged it in such large venues yet, so it's hard to say.  It was mostly (only?) in smaller controlled venues where he could set up speakers, wires, etc.

The technology behind the bricks is pretty amazing.

Have you been to a concert there before? I haven't. Been to the Wells Fargo Center and acoustics are great there either.

Actually, I don't go to concerts much. I do like to see bands in bars or small venues though. Most of the members of the bands I used to go see either broke up, died off, or retired. In that order, I think

This is one concert where sitting further back won't take anything away from the experience.  The puppets are huge, the wall itself is probably 40' tall when it's done and is turned in to a video screen as it's being built for Scarfe's animation and other video.  Everything about the production is made to be on such a larger scale than the band.

It would have been great if Gilmour and Waters could have worked out their differences and toured together, but quite frankly you won't miss him.

I think I just hit the random ticket jackpot. I went onto the Comcast ticket ordering system Friday, and all that was left was far corner seats in the first section nearest to the stage. Too much of an angle so I looked on Stubhub, which had good seats but at a premium.

Just tried Comcast again and it found 4 seats row 7 on the field in section KK, which is just off center. And face value no less. Woo hoo!

I could sell the other two and see the concert for almost free

Being the age Roger is, I wonder how his voice is?  The rest of the show should be AWESOME!

I watched (a few years ago) the The Wall Live in Berlin DVD.  The production at that time was phenomenal.

I think it would be money well spent and you and your son would have a great time.  I can't imagine Waters doing too many more of these as he is really getting up there in age.  I understand your statement about wanting Gilmour to be part of the group and I have wished for years that those two would kiss and make up and get into the studio with a supporting tour but it seems like I have a better chance of winning Kona than that ever happening.

I watched (a few years ago) the The Wall Live in Berlin DVD.  The production at that time was phenomenal.

There were a few spots where it was clear there was a bit of lip syncing.  Can't remember the specific song, but being close it was obvious.  But other than that his voice actually sounds really good.   I wasn't thrilled with the guy that sang Gimour's parts, but they are so few and far between on this album it's not a big deal

ETA the backup singers are all cousins from a local band called Venice (they're actually related to the Lennon sisters).  They brought in the guy that coordinated the background on the original album (can't recall the name), but these guys are really good.  The band is solid, and the guitarist does a very good Gilmour impersonation

The show was tonight and it was unbelievable. By far the best concert production I've ever seen. This was their last arena show, and the wall was massive. Weather turned out to be perfect. The sound was amazingly good, and you could tell they spent a week getting ready for the show. Yes, there was some lip-synching, but there were also some blistering live solos.

This was my son's first major live concert. It's going to be hard to top.

Oh, when the wall came down the flying pig hit the ground and popped. People were grabbing pieces as souvenirs

That's so cool. A friend of mine offered me tickets last week and I had to decline as I was racing to glory today. I never saw them back in the day but I really really really want to see the wall. Oh well maybe next year. Lip synch? Really? I guess it can't be avoided.

I saw the show at Verizon, in D.C.  I wouldn't be surprised if I never see a better show than that.  I went in w/ very high expectations (I mean a modern day The Wall) and they were surpassed.  The music part was awesome (even w/o the other 2 members of PF) and the effects/show was simply amazing.  Kudos to Roger because he, and his team put on a show that many will remember all their lives.

Saw the show here in S. Florida about a month ago, and it was amazing. Would have love to see Gilmour, but have to agree that the guitarist did a great job. It was a concert/movie/play all in one. What a production! Definitely top concert for me. Saw Roger Water a couple of years back doing Dark Side of the Moon and that was good too, but nothing in comparison with this one.

I normally complain about the price of the tickets for concerts, but this one was worth it.

I saw this show about a month ago at Wrigley.  I agree with everybody else that it was a fantastic show.  The one thing that kind of got me was the constant ranting and raving by Roger Waters about capitalism and anti-war.  I understand the anti-war part  based on his past history.

However, I'm assuming he donated all the proceeds from his entire tour to a worthy cause.  Based on the way he was going on and on about how bad capitalism is and with the price I paid for a ticket, I assumed he re-distributed all the proceeds.  Other than that I liked the show a lot.

Ha I was discussing that exact thing at the concert with my friend -- why if he's so anti-capitalism is he playing a show at Wrigley Field where they dispense beer from AB Inbev and food from various corporate giants and charging me hundreds to do so?

That said, what an awesome concert.

$80 for two t-shirts!!! I'm either a great dad or have 'sucker' emblazoned on my forehead.

For a guy worth well over $100MM and masterminding a marketing/concert business that takes in $90MM per tour, I had to laugh.
