Subject: IM Arizona Sell Out Speed
I was just wondering how fast the U.S. Ironman races usually sell out, specifically Ironman Arizona.  I am thinking about taking my first shot at an Ironman at the 2010 Arizona race and just wanted to know if I should be sitting at my computer at noon the next day after this years race clicking refresh?
Thanks!

No way to currently know as everything has changed, on many levels - economy, IM interest, new dates, etc.  Last April's race didn't sell out for months.  November sold out a bit quicker.  2009's November edition had two races, 2008 April and 2008 Nov. where people could sign up, so it didn't go online (or if it did, sold out quickly).  2010 will be the first year everything is "normal" as far as signups go

If I were a betting man I'd say you could get in from home Monday morning.  Of course, if you want to assure yourself a spot without question, go to Tempe

12 hours is pretty good as many sell out in 15' after going on line. I'm planning on AZ '10 and debating if I want to go out to volunteer, ride the course, and sign up or risk signing up on line.

Not for nothin', but I volunteered for IMKY and the volunteer coordinator said that they were NOT going to have in-person sign up the following day (for 2010) because they had received complaints from people who were shut out of getting to sign-up (people who could not travel to the site of the race).  Not totally sure I believe that, but that's what he told me.

All the other IMs in NA do on site registrations just KY.

Except now they are all WTC, whereas before only KY was WTC so it had different rules.  I would be surprised if they banned on siite signups, for the sole reason that it's a great motivator to get volunteers.  They'd be shootinng themselves in the foot

Yeah, I just signed up too. Not sure if I'll pull the trigger. I guess we'll see how I do at the SOMA HIM in October. The longer I train the more and more respect I have for the distance.

I'm crazily toying with the idea of signing up. Depends on my progress between now and this Nov, but I won't be able to go in person to register though. Hopefully it sells out less quickly because of the economy. Probably should be waiting until 2011 though.

The economy has slowed things down. IM CDA has been open since 6/22. Almost 1 month.

I'm volunteering and not sure if I'll sign up for 2010. I guess it depends on how I do in my HIM in October and if I follow through with the crazy urge to sign up.
