Subject: Downton.

I cannot believe there isn't a thread about it! Who watched! Was I the only dummy to not know it was a 2 hour premiere!?

Oh Lady Mary & Dowanger Countess are quite the force. I loved Shirley McClaine as the the progressive American!

I'm so excited, and in such an improper way! The Lord & Lady would not approve of these hysterics!

weekend

Left Brain - 2013-01-07 4:23 PMI give up....what is it?
yet another period drama out of the UK. I was astounded after my trip back there at Christmas how much TV my family watch! I'm lucky to catch an hour a week my family about 4-5 hours a day! My niece is three she is on five hours. The only ones not sick with colds and flu were my older sisters family who are fitness freaks and outdoorsy..... My life is too short for period dramas

Downton sounds like some BS to me. Laughing

Yes, I did ask who watched, but I did also want to talk about the actual show & premiere. I'm busy too, I actually cooked about 3-4 meals in the evening, ending 10min before the show started. I'm not sick. I did work out and then ran errands all day. I don't have DVR, in fact we don't have enough tine to justify paying for it, or expanded cable. So yes, I love the show: clean drama (except the stain on Lady Mary!) that's well written.

This is basically the only thing I watched on TV the past year, besides the Olympics and 1/4 of a Patriot's game.

I only watched the latter part of the show last night cos I was busy with something else.  I think PBS rerun their MasterPiece Tuesday nights.  Must remember.

They do? I didn't know that. It's a shame the episodes aren't on their website either.

It was a much anticipated event in our house. We added TV in the apartment to see it in Atlanta. We have had the apartment for seven years without TV.Which BTer most resembles Lady Mary? Or any other BT-DA characters who match.

It depends on your channel, but WGBH does on 44, not 2.

Watched, enjoyed.

Spoilers: Some people have complained about the whole 1%-er ness of the family, how they see themselves as job creators and want to keep their station.  I liked that they are dealing with that in the time that their way of life was evaporating (the between war period saw most manor houses die off because of raising costs and declining revenue in real England)

First off, sorry Comet for derailing your thread but ...

The question was, who watches Downton Abbey ... it wasn't `Who can be a jerk and try to be all high and mighty because they are so cool they don't watch TV and when they do it's by accident.'

WTF is wrong with you guys? Do you think it's cool to come into a thread and act like aholes to the OP? You don't watch TV? Great. Then why are you even responding to a thread about a TV show you don't watch?

PBS Sunday's. 2 hour premiere last night.

check your local PBS website to see if they are going to show it again during the week. Generally, I have not seen reruns, but hopefully they'll replay the first episode for you.

Ha! I don't know who resembles Lady Mary. I'm quite impressed of the addition of tv & a line just to watch it! Well done. That's historic, like when the Abbey got a telephone & electricity!

I'll admit I asked, but, yes, I was hoping it was understood I was trying to actually discuss the show. I guess I'm a lazy, unhealthy loser with an uncool family since I enjoy this TV program.

Speaking of, I should be back in time from my marathon on Sunday to watch episode 2!

Well, you're not lazy or unhealthy. And there are so many other things that make you a loser with an uncool family that have nothing to do with Downton. You're welcome.

We don't watch much real time TV at all... except for Sunday nights which have been DEXTER and HOMELAND... and which will now be BL, Downton, and I think Shameless and House of Lies. I don't have any idea how we are going to DVR all these shows at once. Why does EVERY good show have to be on Sunday night?

Anyway, loved it. Loooooooooooooooved it.

Just BL & Downton for us.

I was mesmerized for the full 2 hours!! Even the Lord of the house, who usually makes fun of Downton, was hooked!

I didn't watch.  Even though you asked who did.  I didn't.  For the record.  I've seen some other earlier episodes of this show and I quite enjoy it, although it's not a genre that I typically enjoy.

Maybe I will watch it in the future.

My wife and I just watched Season 1 on Netflix over the last three days.  We are scrambling to find Season 2 to borrow from some one so we can join in on the Season 3 fun.  I'm hoping the Dowager Countess (we actually call her Professor McGonagall when we're talking about the show) remains the most awesome b**** that she was in Season 1.
