I am not a new year's resolution guy but it seems things are turning out that way

I just joined a gym (for the pool and child care mainly) -a first for me

I just got an xterra vortex 3 sleevless wetsuit (call me a sell out, many here know i am not a wetsuit fan - and it was only $99)

Starting on the 1st I will switch my log from runner's world to BT - (RW has too many popups and insufficent capability for tracking cross training

Last year my biggies were tri bike, joining usat and BT.

Any one else have changes on the horizon?  joining a team, starting a training plan, new bike whatever...

I too am not a resolution guy. Rather goals work just fine.

I just bought a tri bike (finally), in mid-January I will be updating my training log here and in October I will complete my first HIM.

Not a bad way to start off the (almost) new year.

I started racing last summer so this is my first winter of training and it's going awesome.

Just did my first bike upgrade, bought a pair of custom wheels for just over $400 and a new cassette.  Buying some lighter XC tires will lighten my current setup by almost 2lbs!

brue, if you dont mind posting on here, which gym?

big changes for me are a goal/focus to become a good runner this year, and to find a team to race with.

i guess not a huge personal change - but i will extend out my run focus, and I am planning to BQ in March, and possibly do 3 marathons in 90 days to pick up marathon maniac status

i still have no idea what next season tri wise will look like. . probably one HIM and a handful of shorter races.

Yep, running focused year for me too.  So far it's going really well.  Not sure how much racing I'll do next year but minimum one tri, a 10k and a half marathon.  Probably a bunch of 5ks thrown in for motivation.  Maybe a century.

I'm going to try and focus on my bike.  It's feeling neglected.  I'm a runner first, swimmer second and biker last.

Sounds very similar to my racing plan for next summer.  1/2 mary in May, sprint in June, maybe another in July and a 1/2 iron in October -  With some 5k's mixed in.

As for the big changes...I'm in the process of upgrading my bike.  My groupset is fine, but I lost a bunch of weight and now my old frame is a little too small.  I bought a new frame and am just waiting for the genuine campy cableset to come in the mail so I can finish putting it together.

Do more tri's........................tri harder!!  Work on all three disciplines with a little more gusto.  Also looking to purchase my first tri-bike (Scott plasma 10) by the end of January or early February.  Nothing is set in stone.  Things change, but fitness will always a part of my lifestyle.  I only say this because my wife (Grace) is starting to run and our oldest, Heaven, wants to do her first tri.  I'd rather be on the side line as their pillar of support and encouragement.   We'll see, but regardsless, good times and great memories to come.

After two years of sprint tris, I am moving to longer events and cutting the number of sprints.  I have two HIMs and two Olys planned plus one sprint duathlon I like to do just for fun 'cause it's a small event and comes early in the year so it is a great tune-up.

I'm spending the winter becoming a better runner, half mary in April, then spending the summer becoming a real triathlete, with a 70.3 in Sept.

Big stuff ahead for me too.  I decided to try an HIM this year and instead of just "doing it to finish" I'm planning to challenge myself time-wise.  To accomplish that, I'm going to hire a coach (that's the really big thing).  And weirdly I had a revelation that I don't like my tribike and am hoping to sell it, and my old roadie, and get a nicer road bike.  Hope that works out okay...

Broke down and bought a used TT bike rather than continue to use road bike w/ aerobars.

Joined a cycling team.

Bought a used CX bike.  May also use it for road riding since it's much lighter than my current road bike.

Guess I'm focusing more on riding in 2010.

I'm heading into my second tri season and moving from sprints this year to spring Olys and late summer HIM. I'm going to be coached and have seriously committed myself to getting fit and putting in quality training time that include group swim work outs, bike classes and more.

I'm considering 12 races in 12 months for 2010, even if a handful of them are just 5K's.

I am not sure if change is the word but I have goals. Things will change when I go to university and I will join a structured shedule of tri training, with the aim to do a HIM and a few tri's overseas.

BTW well done on your changes!!!

My big changes:

- Having a structured training plan (albeit out of a book, BUT it's better than nothing)
- Go at this full-bore. I really want to see how well I can compete at the Olympic distance, first race this year will be collegiate nationals
- Getting down to race weight (currently at 140-ish, I am hoping to get down around 130)
- Creating a triathlon team at my university(currently in the works)
- Owning a bike; my father was a cyclist during college and after, and was not supported by his parents. With my successes on such little training, he has graciously offered to purchase a bike for me, he understood what it was like to be a collegiate athlete.

Nothing major, focusing on swimming and maintaining some running base this winter. I Sprinted last summer & ran a Half Thanksgiving. Next year I want to peak with an Oly or two. If one is the Cour d'Alene Oly I would be happy. Beyond that some recreational cycling, scuba, hiking, etc.

Mine will be:

  • Follow my HIM plan and finish my first HIM in April (at NOLA) strong.
  • Race the same Sprint tri's I did this year (my first year) and beat all of my times (should be easy as I was undertrained for most of my sprints)
  • Find a relay team and start training do a 1-2 legs of an IM in late 2010 or early 2011(with my knee a marathon is not in my future)
  • Discover a way to repair my knee and run a marathon (okay, stretch goal here!)
  • Discover a way to convince my wife I need a new bike (even bigger stretch goal!)

I'm going to ride over 300 miles a month and try to run 5/6 days a week, converting from being a heel-striker to a mid-foot striker.

- Increase run volume 40 - 50 mi per week
- Sub 21 min 5K
- Compete in my first Tri in May
- Get a road bike
- Ride in my first RAIN (ride across Indiana)
- First mountain bike race

Not get injured and waste a season like last year.

Become balanced in all three (improve my swim)

Do IMKY and execute it well.

Hey Timo612, I did RAIN last year, since I couldn't run I focused on the bike.  The weather was perfect.
