Back for the full. Veteran of the 2009 and 2011 races, before the change to the course. Looking forward to round 3.

I am in. I was planning on doing B2B this year. I am pissed that WTC bought it and doubled the price. I had heard great things about it before. They'll have to work hard to make it twice as nice. This will be my 5th IM...

I am in for the Full. I did B2B half in 2012 and the full in 2013. I was rather disappointed in the sale, but excited to do a full again!

Still open now, the first day of the bump in price.  Interesting.

I was up in the air between B2B (before it went WTC) and IMMD for this year.  I'm still undecided but am now greatly leaning to IMMD.  Especially now that B2B is WTC, I'll be interested to hear how the race goes with what will likely end up being triple the number of people if not more.

Just transferred my race entry from IMMD to IMNC! WTC made if very smooth and easy to do. I did the IMMD two years ago and it was a great race. I had already signed up for the IMMD again this year and was contemplating B2B when it changed to IMNC. I really liked the B2B when I did it several years ago and I decided since a friend of mine signed up for the NC race that I should join him for the first run with WTC. I wanted to do the race in my home state and earn some cool battleship gear. I love the point to point swim and I have so much fun in Wilmington before and after the race. Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to compete in any events like this and I can't wait to see you guys there!

I just transferred from IMChoo to IMNC! Really excited!

What can everyone tell me about this race?

I keep coming back to B2B/IMNC because it's a great experience; receptive host town/unique point to point setup/usually a fast and(mostly)scenic course. I would strongly counsel going through the BT race report archives - many people have shared their observations over the years. The race has seen a few tweaks over the last eight years but the essence of the event has always been the same.

One thing that will be different for 2016(unless the RD changes the start time) is that the swim for the full is not going to be fast. At a 7:30am start time, we'll be going against the tide for a few minutes at the beginning and getting some push on the back half. It's tough to forecast exactly what the net of the push/pull is going to be but there's no way you're going to see anyone coming out of the water in 35minutes(that happened a couple of years ago) with mediocre swimmers like me going 45minutes. Best guess is that swim times will look much more normalized for 2.4miles than we saw most years at B2B. No problem - just train like you would for any other Ironman and it'll be fine

Put in very few words: this year will not be a downhill swim. OTOH, our ironman cred will be secure after IMNC 2016.

Race day is six months from tomorrow...

No particular reason for mentioning that. Just wanted to see the thread at the top of the queue.

Any idea how quick IMNC will sell out? I am getting the money together for the entry fee. Taking a little longer than I expected. Will IM most likely stick to the old B2B courses?

As of May 2, there were just under 1300 register for the race.  Many predicted a quick sell out, but this clearly hasn't happened, and based on nothing more than my own opinion, I'm not sure it'll sell out at all.

Anyone know the start time for when this was B2B? Curious about the difference in the swim. I am not a bad swimmer but I did a 140.6 race in a salt water bay against the current once and the swim times were abysmal for everyone! I am really not looking forward to that again.

Generally the gun has gone off around 7:20am. Because the course is part of the Intercoastal Waterway, it's under the Coast Guard's jurisdiction..they have to give the all clear before the race starts which means it's always a slightly moving target.

From looking at the tide chart, it appears it'll be slow going at first and picking up the further along we go.

I'm in for the Half.  Training Plan starts today!

I've done both the half and the full course in the past.  WTC will be under the microscope to see how they measure up by those who have done the race before.  High expectations with the increased price!

Looks like it will be almost dead low tide when the race starts, should be better for those racing the half though.

So I live inland and know little of tides and waves. If we start at the lowest tide point, the water will be the most still ie. no push forward or backward. As we proceed further into the swim the rising tide will increase the push towards the finish? Does that sound about right?

I think 2010 B2B was a similar tide, and pretty slow swim times for that course. The confluence of the channels, with water incoming/outgoing from all three, the water was very swirly. A good chop from the wind didn't help either. And it was really cold. At least that shouldn't be a problem this year. All I can say is I wouldn't count on an easy swim this year.

I've raced two B2B 70.3s and 1 full. Great race! Besides atmosphere, I don't see how it'll be better. I predict swag will be worse.

Regardless, I think it will still be a great race and, after a few years, will be one of the tougher IMs to get into. B2B was a great race and WTC has a chance to really make this one of their gems.

BTW, I'm racing the 70.3 this year....and looking forward to it!

So I turn 50 next year and finally am planning to do my first Ironman race at IMNC.  Excited as can be.

Today, I looked on the IMNC website and read that they are discontinuing the full IM distance and it will only be a 70.3 race.  I'm as disappointed as can be.
