Why? I've used 2 in the last 15 months, and one of those was a loaner. Are you getting that many flats you need bulk amounts?

You can buy them at Wal Mart (where they sell BB guns) for much cheaper than the LBS.

Ebay they tend to go for $1.50 or $2.00 ea for the 16 Gr ones.
I bought a 30 pack and probably still have 28 left after six months.

X2. 50¢ each for the unthreaded 12g, perfectly adequate to get you back home or back to transition.

i like to ride at a very high pressure (120ish) and seem to slowly lose pressure over a couple of rides.

i'm in nyc, so no walmart close, perhaps i can order from them online.

i do see some places with 50 counts for around $25...looks to be the best.

wait are you pumping up your tires with co2, or getting that many flats?

FWIW 120 is not very high pressure, but rather normal for many tires.

Get you a floor pump, $20 for an unlimited supply of air. Won't leak out of your tire as fast as CO2, either.

Well, in a pinch, you could use this:

big CO2 tank

(Or, try the free air suggestion -- works for me.)

www.biketiresdirect.com usually has discounts on CO2 if you are looking for 16g threaded. Like mentioned, get a pump and 12g unthreaded are dirt cheap in many places other than the bike shop.

I'm going to state the obvious for any newbies that are reading this (because I know a lot of new bicyclists don't realize this):

You should pump up your tires before EVERY ride (or at least every other ride). Usually you will only need to add a couple pounds of pressure.  It is normal for tires to lose a little bit of pressure over a couple days.

I bought a "bulk" box of CO2 from one of the online retailers...either performance or nashbar...can't remember.  It was definitely cheaper than buying one or two from the LBS.  Why did I buy it in bulk?  So that hopefully I would never be out of CO2 in my flat kit.  I'm the type of person that has a hard time running out to do one small errand like pick up a CO2 cartridge.  I would keep forgetting and inevitably ride without CO2.  I do own a frame pump, but consider its use "emergency only" because it's such a pain and not that reliable.  So, yeah...I see nothing wrong with buying a box of CO2 cartridges...they don't really go bad.

Haven't had to buy CO2 when home for a few years now since I only go through about one cartridge every few months or so.   Of course, this doesn't help me when I fly to a race and have to buy some when I get there only to give it away after the race.  HATE that.  Someone needs to invent the indestructable CO2 case so you can pack it in your luggage.

I'm with the floor pump.  I have been using a frame pump for years and guessing on the amount of air in my tires.  I broke down, spent the 40$ for a pump with a gauge.  Worth it.

I have CO2 cartridges for racing - but if I'm just doing a ride around I take the frame pump.  Way cheaper and the extra weight is good for me to haul around. *smile*

I am kind of disturbed that someone would use CO2 to normally fill their tires instead of a floor pump.  That is just a waste of money and landfill space.  Wow, I am just floored that people actually do this.Frown

Since nobody has come right out and said why, CO2 is intended as an emergency measure. CO2 will leak out of your tires within a day or two, since the tube can't hold the CO2 molecule very well (It seeps out). So, even if you fill with CO2 out on the road, you need to deflate and reinflate when you get home, otherwise in a day or two it's flat again anyway. So, you can use a CO2 cartridge for $1-$2 every couple days, or just get a pump with a gauge.

This is for my peeps with curbside recycling, or I guess anyone that recycles. You can put the used CO2 cartridges out with your recycling. I recently found that out!

Ah, you had to go and ruin it.  This was shaping up nicely, though not quite to the level of the how to poop in your shorts thread. LOL.
