Subject: Colder due to lower body fat?
I have always been relatively thin and started triathlon training in February, but have not had this low of body fat for about 20 years.  After being outside for about 3 hours today I came in and was cold for a long time, even though it was almost 40 out.  Has anyone else noticed they are colder after loosing body fat or is it just a one day thing for me?

It made a huge difference for me, but I was seriously overweight and still have a long way to go.

I'd agree with that.....and not to hijack.....but my body has started to have a caffine affliction too. If I take in caffine after about 3-4pm, I cannot sleep (I used to keep a 20oz Mountain Dew on my bedside table and would drink before going to sleep).

I am 38, 5'9", 152lbs, 5.7% body fat. I am cold all the time. It has never been the case before. At 40-45F my hands and feet are cold, on bike rides very hard to keep core temp warm. In cold pools I have to swim like mad to stay warm, my thumbs go numb if I don't. I need a blanket always. Wife complains now that I am cold all the time. Used to weigh 215lbs about 4 years ago. Was never cold.

I am still losing weight, but I have noticed that I now get cold a lot easier.  I never used to feel the cold all that much, but now once the temps about 40 or so I have to start putting gloves and  hats on.

Definitely colder. I had been 180lbs for years and was comfortable with that weight at 6'3". But, when I picked up my training and subsequently dropped to 171, its now very hard to get warm and stay warm. Thank goodness for the small things in life like heated car seats and flannel sheets. They're not just for winter anymore.

ya, you have lost or are starting to lose the yellow fat around your organs. That insulates your core more than you might think. I used to be the guy in shorts 12 months a year and never cold. Now I'm the how many layers does it take to get to the triathlete guy.

because triathlon doesn't take up all of our free time you could always try Tum-mo meditation http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2002/04.18/09-tummo.html

Another vote for yes I feel colder after losing body fat.  I dropped from 255 to 175.  Thought about the body fat aspect of it before, never considered the organ fat though as mentioned a few posts earlier... it is easy to put on a little extra clothing.

Maybe. I have very little body fat, and am always cold, and have always been this way.

My fiance on the other hand, lost some weight and now has a bf% close to mine, but he is still always warm, and always has been warm. Nothing changed when he dropped down to a ridiculously low bf%.

If I had $.01 for every time someone has said to me  "If you had any body fat, you wouldn't always be so cold" , I would have a very comfortable future.  I hate being cold, but I'm sure as heck not willing to get fat to resolve the cold issue.  I'm also not convinced it would really solve the issue.  Unfortunately, being female and closing in on 50 might.

I have lost 85 lbs overall and I'm guessing over 100 pounds of body fat and I am cold all the time now.  I used to be hot all the time and would be sweating just sitting at my desk at work.  Now as I type this my fingers are almost numb I am sooo cold.  I hoping that after a while my body will start to adjust.  The good news is that I can start wearing sweaters again!

I am very lean and I tend to get very cold. I don't know my BF % though (don't care)

Add another log to the fire ...
I lost a lot of BF over the last year and was always turning the AC down this past summer.  My wife was pregnant at the time and didn't appreciate that.

X2 on the cold and numb fingers while sitting in front of a keyboard.  I wish I knew a solution for that.

I was just noticing this the other day.  I've lost about 35 pounds this year, and now it seems that I'm just cold all the time.  Never used to be that way.  Gotta learn to dress for the new weight, I guess.

That's because Fexican's don't have BF%.  They move too quickly for it to be measured.

I am fairly low in BF% (not so much these days) but I am fairly warm.

Oddly, I went from 227 to 178 over the summer (eek!) and I notice no difference in my body's temperature sensitivity.

My hubby has dropped about 15lbs since the beginning of summer and has already noticed that he's much colder than he was last winter. I've never fluctuated that much, so I'm just always cold. He figured it was due to having less padding I'll have to let him know he's not alone!

I've always been low BF but I think I just have a high temperature comfort zone although do like it cooler.  I don't start wearing a coat till it's in the low 50's but I won't put the AC on till it's in the 90's.  I do get cold in the water faster then normal though.  I scuba dive and am always the first to complain about the water temperature.  I blame that on not having my own natural insulation.
