Subject: Should I go out with the massage guy?

So I booked in for a sports massage last night  really really needed one.

It was with a new masseur who I haven't had before and he was really friendly funny and most importantly great at massaging (man that just sounds bad/dirty even though I didn't mean it to be).   After I had paid the bill and was leaving he started walking me out to my car and said something along the lines of

"umm I'm not really supposed to do this but I was wondering if you would like to go out with me sometime or is that a little wierd?"

I said yes because he was cute and friendly and I didn't really think about it till I got home. Now I'm kinda wondering if i should have said yes or not.  I mean he's seen me half naked  I know thats his job and all but is it a little wierd that he asked out one of his clients? On the other hand a boyfriend who can do sports massage is definately a big plus.

any advice/thoughts?

hehe...gotta love guys!

Im certainly no expert...but...I say if you said yes without thinking and just went with your gut you should go for it! I mean one dinner doesnt = relationship unless you both want it too. Ive always been in favour of taking the chances that come along. ..

Ok the job thing is a bit unprofessional but maybe he just doesnt ever meet girls as wonderful as you...so you were just so damn lovely he couldnt resist!

Cant wait to here the report afterwards!

i am an expert. you will heed my words of wisdom:

keep things simple. this is a guy you like enough to say "yes" to. he likes you enough to ask you out. his occupation is SEPERATE from all of that. you two could have met at a grocery store. if so then you'd be thrilled to learn during a date that he does massages.

obviously it may seem a tad weird, especially with the delicacy of a situation like that (getting fired, losing license), but there is far more pressure on him than you. he is probably logged onto beginnermassagetherapist.com or something posting "OMG HAVE YOU GUYS EVER DONE THIS BEFORE?!?!?!".

basically i applaud him for having the guts to ask you out in a situation that is dangerous for him. he could have just settled for letting a good one go and hoping he sees you at the dry cleaners or something, but he went for it.

be happy, don't worry, carry some pepper spray.

I would proceed with caution. Massage Therapists have to meet people somewhere, after all, and the benefits of a boyfriend who gives good rub should not be underestimated.

He might be a wierdo, but he would surely not last long in the profession if he regularly harassed clients.  For both of your sakes, keep it safe and light for a while. Don't give out too much personal info, meet him in public places, etc. until you get a better idea of his personality. Whether the date goes well or not, I think you need to find another masseur.

I know we have a couple of LMT's on the board, they may have a better take on the ethics of him asking you out.

Oh so many good points,  thanks guys.

I think I will go have dinner or coffee or something easy like that.  Well he was going to call me anyway so will wait and see if he actually does first I guess.

will keep ya posted.

Plus if he turns out to be a physcho you can have his license revoked... or something along those lines. Now that's just a worse case scenario. He is right, asking you out wasn't the ethical thing to do nor the safest thing for him to do in terms of his career, but if he's taking the risk and is aware of it maybe he thinks your worth it.

Then again if you were a masseuse would you ask a client out. I mean, you can't really charge them anymore if your dating... right.

I say go for it...and everyone had great points!  Definitely do NOT see him both professionally and non-professionally at the same time.  If it works out, you won't need to FIND a new LMT because you'll get FREE massages!  And if he was a creep he wouldn't have a job.  Those were my two favorite points and I agree with them!

I am determined that I need to marry an LMT someday...would be SO useful!

I would go out with him.  As long as you make sure not to mix your personal life with his professional life.  It doesn't seem like he was unprofessional about asking you out which is good.  Just make sure to keep your date casual and see how things go.  I'm jealous- just think of all the free massages you can get

On the other hand a boyfriend who can do sports massage is definately a big plus.

Ever see the Seinfeld episode where he dates a masseus but can't get a massage?   Enough said.

OK, JUST KIDDING...not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. Another Seinfeld reference. That masseuse episode was a CLASSIC.

I was just going to post that one of my best friends is a LMT. She was dating a guy who was a chef. I told her that it doesn't get any better than that. She said he cooked the best food she had ever had. I asked if she gave him massages and she said "No" Not when I'm not working. Needless to say they broke up.

Exactly! Jerry went nuts trying to get a freebie. Massage. Best laid plans...

I say give it a shot. Hey, at least he didn't ask you out WHILE you were half-naked. Now THAT would be weird. From your point of view, I mean, perhaps not from the guy's...

As the sole voice of reason on theis site I feel it is my duty to throw some cold water on this happy dance... Does it not accur to any of you that he was thinking about you sexually while he was working? Did you happen to feel any inadvertant "bumps?" While you were sitting their, eyes closed and getting your massage, he was sneaking furtive, nasty little peeks at your partially nude body and, while I suppose it may be somethgin of a complement that he clearly liked what he saw, I'd have to wonder how many other partially naked clients he liked enough to "risk" asking out. My guess is you are not the first.

He could like you enough to risk his job, or he could be habitual. Hell, this could be the 5th place he's worked at over the last 2 years...

Be careful.

Good advice. I had that very thing happen to me a couple of years ago, though, and the whole feel of the situation was very different from what she seemed to be describing--it became furtive and slimy pretty quickly after my massage started. My guess is that she would be able to tell if he was getting all hot and bothered while he worked on her--I certainly could and I got myself out of there, pronto. And then complained about him to the state board. And you're right, I was not the first to complain.
