Perhaps it's time for a break. Sometimes I loose perspective. The economy, the elections, the shootings, the cliff... Sierra Club is trying to shut my plant down, sell the municipal utilities to a private company, I just bought a business that is not in the black... The only good thing that has happened around here was weed was legalized, but I stopped smoking it 12 years ago.... and I plan on keeping it that way. Moderation was never my strong suit. I have not been "training" since September, I have gained 10 lbs. and I am not signed up for a single thing. Yes, my blank logs are up to date. Maybe it is time to get off the computer and get some things in order.

I just want to say, to all my COJ peeps, you are the best. I have never been on any other forum that allowed political discussion, that had the level of class that you guys have. Intelligent, passionate, adult discussion on very sensitive subjects with some very opposed views. Yet you guys pull it off with class, thoughtfulness... and yes, even respect. Just because I may disagree with you, does not mean I do not have a great deal of respect for all of you. I think I'm argued out. I get here from time to time.

My best to all my BT Peeps.

Well said Powerman! The one thing which made me happy yesterday was that I got together with my old crew of cycling friends and all of us got " thicket" this year. So it wasn't just me ho has been spending more time on the ouch than the saddle.

I hate getting "thicket"...seriously... that's one of the only things I've done since I got back to FL.

BT does have a cool, unique, intelligent, witty group of posters and the mods seem to know where to draw the line better than other places.

I hope Sierra Club visits you at your house Powerman...

Happy holidays BT.

I have been hitting some weights. Maybe we should talk about strength training. I have seen this program called Cross fit. Seems intersting... maybe we should discuss.

It's just like being married, you gotta learn to pick and choose your battles threads. You can't win the internet every time you post. Also, you live in the most recreation friendly state in the country. You just have to make it a priority to get out and do something (says the guy who put on 25 pounds since his failed marathon attempt).

Enjoy reading many of your posts pman!  I'm with you on the legalization of weed.  It's been somewhat longer for me since I have stopped.  In fact, I think it goes back to when I was paying member of the Sierra Club (I have not always been as conservative as I am today).

Hey, we need to do something about getting you off the couch.  There are far too many endurance events in Colorado to not be thinking about an early season century or triathlon.  Let me know if you would like any suggestions.

I said on another thread that part of the reason the gun debate, like so many other hot-button issues, is so polarized is that most people have no exposure to people on the other side of the argument, so as much as it gets me worked up sometimes, I'm grateful for the people here who can and have helped me to at least get a handle on where the other side of the gun debate is coming from.

I don't always agree, of course, but is is true that whenever I talk to my friends about guns, I'm invariably the one who takes up the pro-gun position, for the sake of being the devil's advocate, and tries to explain about the second amendment and why assault weapons are hard to define, and basically tries to enlighten people about why the debate isn't as simple and one-sided as they perceive it to be.

COJ definitely keeps work interesting. Because, you know, work isn't really that interesting sometimes. Plus it's fun interacting with people who don't agree with you politically. Everybody here are a bunch of liberal hippie commie pinkos. Just like me.

I have really been kicking myself because Fall was so spectacularly awesome for running and I have pretty much done none. I have been kicking some ideas around, but I really do not know what I'm doing this year. I will probably be going back to days and will probably sign up for another Boulder 70.3. But a friend is doing some trail series... 7 HM trail runs?... considering. Might join the wife at Ferrel's just to do something together. Wanted to do Triple Bypass again... lot's of "ideas"... not much committment. My schedule being up in the air is a small part of the problem though.

I've had too many discussions with my husband that start: "So, there's this thread on BT...".  It's kind of silly, really.

I wish that all of the discussions were as nice and respectful as what you said.  I hope that everyone can remember this when you (the global you)  want to reply with "What planet are you living on that you can think that?" (or similar)  Guess what, I actually believe what I am typing and I am living on Earth right here with ya.  Yes, there are different perspectives.

I personally have learned a lot, although it mostly confirms that I am right    I only respond about 15% of the time since I am usually treated in this manner when I finally have the guts to try to say something. I am not a good debater and it's frustrating to be treated like I'm a ninny when I do try.

So yes, party on good people and GO WORK OUT!

Whenever I tell mrs gearboy about whatever I am talking about on the BT boards, she asks "Don't they ever post anything about triathlon?"

Stealing this idea from another site but what about starting up a COJ Workout Challenge,,,, 30 minutes of some type of exercise a day as a goal till say 2/14/2012. Anyone know how to set up a challenge like this in BT?

PM - on the tri board we have a "30 runs in 30 days" challenge thread going.  The minimum run is 2 miles or 20 minutes.  It's been a good motivator for some folks.  I'm currently at 108 days of consecutive running and there's a guy on there who is right at 400 days, with quite a few other streaks going.

It only takes 20 minutes a day (if you stay at the minimum) and you'll be surprised how fast the miles pile up.

I've always wanted to do the Triple Bypass. I used to do a lot of riding in Colorado. I don't think I could do it these days, what with all the riding in flat flat Chicago. I've a 50-mile trail ultra on the docket this year so I'm all about the trail running. For now. Until something shiny comes along and catches my eye.

you could do it Tony...even if you are a flatlander!  Long rides where there is a lot of ascending and descending are easier than a long flat ride, imo.  It's slower...but easier.  If not TBP...Copper Triangle goes over 3-passess (Freemont, Tennessee, and Vail over about 80-miles.  Somewhat easier but just a scenic.

Triple Bypass really is an awesome ride. It's just cool. Just a long day in the sadle, but plenty of support. And here in the states, the grades are not steep, just long.
