Subject: RE: Sports drink recommendationsandykiss - 2009-07-21 2:17 PM I've been drinking the Gatorade, not so much to fuel longer workouts but more to replenish during workouts and to help recovery. At least that's my thinking. My sessions are not very long right now, usually a 20 minute swim of about 750 yards and then a 30 min run or 10-13 mile bike ride. I usually drink about 1.5 quarts a day. So far I have not had any health issues, so I guess what I've been doing has been ok. I'm training for my first race next month and hope to be steadily increasing my distances/times. Also, I'm 42 years old. Don't know if that's a factor. If you are exercising for less than an hour, water alone should generally suffice as you don't really need to fuel your workout--just hydrate. Replenish afterwards, if necessary, with real food (at under an hour, you should generally only need a small snack at most even for that purpose ). That's too much of any sports drink to be having daily if that's your typical workout level. |
