Subject: RE: ING New York City MarathonHey guys, sorry I'm late to the party, Kristin pointed me in the right direction. Best of luck to everyone - this will be my 5th NYC, but 1st race after a 3yr hiatus, can't wait to be back out there.
There are definitely some good tips notes above RE pre-race. Something I always try to do is over-dress in layers and peel things off as gun-time approaches. I personally prefer warmer conditions than are forecast for Sunday, so I'll still be fairly bundled up until a min or 2 before the start & then pull everything off.
Regarding the race itself, these are a few links which you may also find helpful:
NYC Marathon Race Report '05 (2:49): This is my RR from the '05 race & goes into quite a bit of detail on how I approaced the race. It wasn't a perfectly executed race as I had more fall-off than I would have preferred over the 2nd 1/2 (Splits: 1:22 / 1:27 ), but all in all, it was a great race for me. It may help you also visualize certain sections & how you'll handle them on race day.
NYC Marathon Pace Calculator: I don't know if you guys have seen this, but it is a VERY COOL spreadsheet put together to assist w/ proper pacing. It takes into account all grade changes to help you pace based on the specific difficulty of each mile. It also has a lot of helpful spectator info which you could pass onto friends.
So lets hear some predictions?!? |
