Yep.  I moved in with my girlfriend in Cloverdale in December.  I was already staying there 50% of the time, so its not a big change.

I think I'll probably do the sprint.  I like the late afternoon start, and I'll be able to compare my time to last year.

Nothing like sleeping in and getting a good breakfast before a race!

To hell with that! Get out there in the rain and cheer me on!!  I know this is only my second season of racing, but why do these things start so EARLY!?!?  0730 hrs means I'm up at like 0530 - 0600! You can't even go out for a beer after the race!  I just might bring along a 6 pack and watch / heckle you guys.  I'll be done at around 10 - 1030 so by the time you guys finish we can all go out for nachos and lagers!!!

I was under the impression that everyone in TO was way beyond saving ;P.  Good luck, I hope your abilities take you to gold! I could come out if you guys need any victims...provided there are going to be lady lifeguards!!!

Hey all- the UBC Sprint is going to be my First Triathlon!!!

Jill's posts have inspired me to stop lurking and introduce myself to the locals!! I used to joke with people that Vancouver's city uniform is spandex and lycra but now I've joined the club!

I'm Jeni, and I am doing my Masters at UBC and am originally from San Francisco. Long story short, I tore my ACL my first day skiing in whistler last winter.... in a ski lesson.... had surgery last May and being stuck in a knee brace under doctors orders not to be active totally changes your perspective towards being active.

I swam on a team as a kid until I got to the age where I appreciated sleeping in during the summer. I pathetically attempted very little track in high school (I wanted the varsity letter and if you finished one cross country race you got one!).  did nothing but the casual working for the last 7 years.

But rehab totally made me just want to run (something I had always hated).  Started swimming again after surgery because I just couldn't be still any longer. Bought a road bike as part of rehab and instantly got addicted.  it was the first time in life I felt that endorphin high everyone talks about. Running is my weakness... I am slow right now but I enjoy it!  If you asked me a year ago if I ever though I would enjoy running I would have said you were insane.

I started riding with the Chicks Cycling club this month and I'm intimidated by road racing but I'm sure they will convince me to do at least one this year.

28 days til race day!!!

Doesn't everyone just love how the rain is scheduled to start again on... SUNDAY!

I live at UBC so I will be watching and cheering people on for most of the day.
hmm.. I should go cowbell shopping.

I race at 1:50 and 617 will be my number. Hopefully I will see you there and be able to cheer ya all on!

Any tips on the fastest way to get under lane lines?

 Jeni

I too was wondering the best way to deal with switching lanes. Do you touch right at the rope and duck under, touch a bit off and swim under? I go at 9:50 so I guess I'll learn by watching the people in the heats ahead of me. Any advise appreciated as this is my first pool triathlon ~

The way I saw it work last year was that you (the swimmer) swims to the wall and ducks under the rope then starts down the next lane. It was fairly congested in the lanes so if you run into a few people in your way, ettiquete dicates that you touch their foot as you are approaching a wall. They should move out of the way and let you go by. If they do not, you are allowed to SMASH 'EM ONE! Just kidding!!!! Passing in the lanes is tough as the lanes seemed kind of skinny. There were a few collisions as a few times people passed others putting two people swimming into each other! Looked funny from the stands but you really have to swim with your head up. Best advice I can give (just because I have no idea what I'm doing either!) Take your time and pass at the lane ends! It'll be safer and less stressfull!  Good luck, I'm in the water at 0910, number 2099

See, that's why I'm doing the du! No worry about lanes etc, if someone's in my way I just run them over!!

GOOD LUCK ALL!!! I'm sooo excited to race this weekend. I'll be there early so hopefully I'll see a few of you out there. Let's hope the rain holds out!
