Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK so on Sunday afternoon I totally slammed into a non-moving car was down on my areo bars riding away and my arm hit a parked car it catapulted me over my bike did like a summersault - I was clipped into my bike pedals so I ended up on my back in the road w/my bike on top of me the best thing was I was almost home I mean what would I have done if I had not been this close to home hmmm? called 911 and Said "Um yeah just look for the sweaty girl, bleeding & covered in flies on the road somewhere" the second best thing no one was around to see no one stopped to see if I needed help attribute that to the "bystander effect" I am fine which makes me So Happy just really sore, bumps, bruises, few scrapes My right arm was so swollen is what prompted me to go the the ER looked freaky and bad - not to mention how I looked after 50 mile bike ride quite the visual treat adding dirt/grease/blood to all the sweat Anyhow, the ER nurse described it as 'deformed forearm' Really, like I was some circus freak Hey this side show is not free folks move on However, because I am from a hearty stock of people nothing broke/fractured ER doctor was suprised Do you think this is retaliation for me thinking evil thoughts about a parked car saturday that was blocking the sidewalk when I was running - that really irritates me then I have to run out into the road and risk actually getting hit by a car??? was doing the old people shuffle for a couple of day but back at it now |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Most of my "wrecks" have been due to sheer clumsiness...mostly slow speed wobble-and-tips with my feet clipped in. I do remember one ride with friends when I'd been playing with riding without my hands and was feeling pretty good about it. We got to the end of the ride and were cruising through the parking lot back to our cars and I say "hey guys, look at me!" I had my hands off the handlebars and hit a patch of new tar on the pavement. They still occasionally call me "tar baby". |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How come when everyone else does this - fall over when clipped in for one reason or another - they end up with only scrapes and bruises, whereas I seem to tear up all the muscles in my forearm and destroy my elbows? I've now done this twice in the last month! Usually I'm good at falling (practiced aikido for 12 years) just not when attached to a bicycle I guess. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Crashed my bike while in the trainer. The trainer clamp wasn't set tight enough and I stood up to sprint. Down I went... Cars parked on sidewalks are targets for snot rockets, phlegm, water, Mirror adjustments, etc... Never park your car on the sidewalk at 3am and leave the windows open or the top down. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will admit to having hit a parked car on my bike. I don't think I'd had a bike for more than a month or so...memory is fading, but I think I was messing with my gloves and jiggled the handlebars too much and POW...rear-ended a parked car. I got bounced out of my cleats and my hands/chest ended up on the truck of the car. To this day I don't know if anybody saw me do it...I was so embarrassed I just skedaddled. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Although I have fell over from not clipping out in some very public places and times, (ms 150 rest stop for one). My most embarrassing moment was when I was on scaffolding painting when two cute girls on ten speeds came riding down the street. I let out my best guy whistle, they both looked back over their shoulders and one ended up hitting the back of a parked pickup landing in the bed. I went running down to see if she was okay, neither one of them were impressed at all. That was 1976 and I still can remember how mad both of them were. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I completely forgot about that! I rode my mountain bike into a ditch when I looked over my shoulder to check out a girl on rollerblades that I passed. She then rolled up a minute later to check if I was ok... Nothing hurt but my pride. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() lordy i've fallen over while clipped in so many times ... the best time was in front of a HUGE group of japanese tourists (i live in a beach-city part of LA) at a 4-way stop. that was fantastic. |

Sorry, bad, bad joke. |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() Unclipped right foot leaned left ended up dancing around in a circle. I didn't go down, but ended up ramming the large chain ring into the back of the right calf, ended up with 6 stitches. Still glad I didn't go over. done that tooo many times. The Gnome |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was coming home from a ride, and I live across the street from the neighborhood gate... so I usually clip-in and ride across the street to home.... but I couldn't clip-in... so I rode, then when I tried to stop, I couldn't get my feet down cause they were both dangling... I dropped the bike and kind of put my hands down... yep, you guessed it... a neighbor saw this - I just said "I'm really graceful huh?" just a couple of bruises, and my bruised ego... I'll live ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My signature move involves getting the padding of my shorts caught on the nose of my saddle. It's especially graceful when trying to dismount. Right now I have a bruise on my R thigh from the top tube and a bruise on my L upper arm from the handlebars. I'm so graceful. |

I did a report for a speech class about mountain biking and featured me clipping in on purpose and mentioning that one aspect is no matter how good you get and how crazy of a downhill ride you do, you will pull up to your friends to brag and then fall over. I then clipped in demostrated the clipped in fall. I use to race BMX so I have a ton of embarressing moments from that. None from road biking so far but I'm sure it's to come. I just hope when it does it's something badass looking. But I got some on video. Mountain biking with my buddy and his family I was holding the digital camera and riding around. They just scraped the trail (why I have no clue it was fine before) and kicked up a root which I found.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE8LDORjGMc This one I did while mountain biking another brand new section of trails (I seem to wreck on brand new trails). I center punched a tree and was just making fun of my buddy about a time he center punched a tree (except he was rolling about 20mph) and how I wish it was on video. When I told him I crashed and got it on video he laughed and then he did the same thing I did except he hurt himself pretty bad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhY4ZqGCoYA Then this spot right here is full of bad moments. It's a super slick waterfall which is now 10x bigger since we've had so much rain. But in late spring before the schools are out for the summer all the HS kids come here to hangout and slide down the rock. Including all the pretty little jailbait girls. I have come rolling up a ton in my spandex and tried crossing to just bust my right there in front of sometimes up to 50people. ![]() |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have short legs...and when I'm stopped at a light for a while, I have to unclip both feet, or I'm going to tumble. I learned this after doing such at a big intersection. I'm sure it was comic relief for many. At least on a bike you're moving fast enough hitting a car is a little easier to do and not as easy to avoid. On some of my morning runs in the dark, I've actually brushed a couple of cars and set off car alarms...sensitive suckers...oops. I also have hit some garbage cans that were set out for pickup with my hand and caused some decent bruises. I'm running...the vehicles and cans aren't moving, it was probably 5AM when those things happened--no one else is out, and the streets are very wide. Why am I drawn to the side of the road?? Haha! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This thread rings true for me... Failed to unclip at a stop sign and dislocated my shoulder... surprise! My trainer was not tight enough on my rear wheel; I leaned right to stretch and down I went.. luckily I didn't dislocate the shoulder again since this was a few weeks after the first accident! |

The bike was leaning against the car and I was grabbing it to turn around to then mount it. It was a nice cascade, wasn't it? I'm glad I don't put my InfinIT in there anymore, otherwise, that would have been icky-sticky! |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() My moment was landing chin first as riding into the driveway upon arriving at work (narrow tyres + steep driveway lip approached at a shallow angle = disaster). There was a bus stop packed with people, they seemed quite surprised by my acrobatics. I scrambled to collect bike, wrap hoodie around my chin that was bleeding profusely and retrieve my keys from the backpack and get inside the office where a colleague gave first aid. Three stitches, a few x-rays and a root canal on the cards (a helmet just doesn't provide any protection for the chin/jaw now does it?! |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was riding my mountain bike on a course that took me through a parking lot. There had always been white lines on part of the lot so I didn’t think anything of them when I saw them. Turns out this time they were brand new rubber low wide speed bumps. I hit them doing about 20mph and not being ready for them I lost control and crashed. I landed mostly on my left side but somehow ended up scrapping up my right hand knee and shin badly along with me right forearm. I when I stood up I knew I was hurt but figured it wasn’t too bad, I removed my wedding ring and then inspected my helmet for damage finding none I began to look for my shoe which landed about 30’ away. I straightened out my front tire and begin the 7 mile ride home. I had several other cyclists slow down and say “Holy S&%@ do you needed an ambulance?”. I looked much worse than I felt. The most embarrassing part was after I was all bandaged up explaining that I was in bicycle accident not a motorcycle accident. Seems no one though you could look that bad after crashing a bicycle. I did learn 2 things from this event though. 1 pay very close attention to where I am riding and 2 cyclists are very friendly and very will to call you an ambulance if you want one. Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ahhh Yes........ Never ever say to yourself...."I'm feeling pretty damn good today!" A couple seconds later I crashed and stiff armed the ground and shattered my left arm.. I had to have a plate and seven screws to put it back together. |
