After analyzing what we spend on PPV and in-store rentals, we've come to realize that an on-line delivery service would save us a few bucks. It would also give me a little more inspiration to get on the spinner in the basement.

The two seem relatively similar on the face of it. Which do you recommend? How's the turnaround time? If you have BB, do you actually use the 2 free in store rentals each month?

WalMart is not an option.

No experience with BB, but NF is great. I get my movies the day after I order them, and the turn around time for putting old movies in the mail until I receive new ones is only 3 days.

I have used both, in the past, and I am happier with NetFlix, since I think they have a better selection and are generally faster and more reliable.  I have only had a few problems with NetFlix (sending wrong DVD, once, and a few slow deliveries) whereas Blockbuster was much slower all the time.  Maybe this has to do with my location to the delivery house for Netflix vs. Blockbuster--I am not sure.  Plus, Netflix has a more user-friendly website, in my opinion.  However, now that you have the option to use the two in-store coupons, BB is more attractive than it used to be, since you can hop to the store if your DVDs are lagging and you have nothing to watch.  Right now I am trying to wean myself from my movie obsession, so I am not a member of either service. I am curious to see if other people have the same preference for Netflix.

We've tried both and Netflix is better.  Our turnaround time is much faster than Blockbuster.  I can send in a movie on Monday and have my next movie by Wednesday.  I've never had the wrong movie delivered from Netflix, although I've had a few scratched ones.  Blockbuster has less of a selection and the two free rentals didn't end up being a benefit because they never had the movies we wanted in store.  Netflix has cool functionality like having separate queues for different members of your family - you could have one for your kids and one for you and then decide that the kids get one movie at a time and you get two.  Not sure if Blockbuster has that yet.  It's pretty cool.

I use Nextflix and I've had no problems. I watch all most of the movies at work. Yeah we have a lot of down-time some days especially when the weather is bad. I have over 100 movies in queue so I don't even have to think about it. Really a good deal since I used to have a lot of late fees.

What's your average delivery time, Hollis? I see greencine has one shipping point, in San Francisco, whereas netflix has 37.

Marma, I couldn't be happier, I would tell anyone to use it. I love it for all the new stuff to watch on the trainer. Much cheaper than Blockbuster.

Next plan up ($12) limits you to 4 per month,  2-at-a-time. Do you have the  2-at-a-time, unlimited ($15)

I've only tried Netflix and rate their service as excellent.  I have the 3 at a time plan for $18/month, and get 3 or more movies per week.  They have a shipping warehouse in my town which helps.  I'm paying less than $1.50 per movie.  Very good online interface.  I get next day turn around coming and going.

They don't appear to work weekends, so if you return a movie on Friday it won't be recieved till Monday, and a new one will be shipped for Tuesday delivery.

WalMart is not an option.

Why no Wal-Mart option?  Just because they have questionable hiring practices... And shady benefits packages... And are repeatedly accused of anti-competitive pricing behavior... And because they call Planet of the Apes a great film in African American culture... aren't you being a little harsh?Tongue out

Actually, the Wal-Mart webisite recommends NetFlix for those looking for a DVD rental service.

hmm, bear, I have no idea the turnaround time, they just seem to be coming and going from our house all the time...

But Mike reminded me of another plus about greencine: adult movies....  I discoverd this by accident (really) I thought I was ordering an anime I never heard of and it was porn anime. Yeah, like, cartoon characters doing all kinds of anatomically impossible things.  Strange, but if that's your thing, you can get it at greencine!

we had netflix and it was great, but we switched to blockbuster because of the instore rental coupons. we have used every single one of them. the coupons are great for those sunday afternoons when you are all out of new flix, the library is closed, a storm is coming, and all you want to do is curl up and watch a movie (or on those days when you who have sick kids who need to get some rest and will only stay still and bundled up if they are either being read a story or are watching a movie).

i think blockbuster's turn around is a bit slower than netflix, but it seems to have sped up recently. netflix's library is also bigger and more diverse, but over all the things we had in our netflix queue we added to our blockbuster queue w/o missing more than one or two titles (and i have 90 flix in my queue). netflix also seems like a cooler company, but we had to go with lifestyle match on this one.

ps. since we don't have a tv and i'm not on top of what the newest movies are, getting to use the coupons in the store helps give me ideas for other things to add to my queue.
