I'm a complete dork. LOVE the books. I have them all in book form and on books on tape. I listen to the books on tape on my drive to work. I can't count how many times I've read them. I cried harder then I care to admit while reading the last book. I think I can count the number of times I've cried in the last 10 years on one hand, so for me to bawl over a book is pretty pathetic! I loved the first few movies. The last 2, not so much. The last one, HORRIBLE. I won't even buy it because it was so bad. I'm actually afraid to see the next few. I want to, because I love the series. But I don't want to be disappointed again. And, one of the only thing I am looking forward to about having kids (still not sold on having them) is reading Harry Potter with them Maybe I will watch the first few movies on the trainer this winter, that's not a bad idea... |

I have all the movies, but I tend to agree. I like them, but the last falls a little short. My theory is that the first 3 books are actually pretty short, so they can be really acurate with the screenplay. The last books are MUCH longer and a lot of the details and story need to be trimmed for a standard feature length movie.... |

I think Ron is the oldest at 20. By the last book they're all like 18. Not as weird as if they were like my age, trying to play 17. Hermione still looks young. But yeah, they're running out of time fast. Edited by wurkit_gurl 2008-07-30 4:11 PM |

When books get so heavy with detail, AND with internal thought (character thought without words said), much can be lost. In many ways, each movie is an entity in their own right. The style with which they were shot. The quality of the script (which is different than the book sometimes), etc. To me they are still fun. But yes, I didn't like the last one as much. And can someone PLEASE tell me why Peeve's was never put in the movies. Jebus, that guy cracks me up. |

But they better hurry up and film the last two in a hurry and be done with them. |

At least these kids are pretty close to the correct age. |

Which is why they should have shot the last two at the same time. LotR style. Good god, two LotR references in two posts. I'm a geek. Oh, and for what it is worth, I think the book craze is the best thing to happen to childrens' reading in I don't know how long. |

I can't wait to read them to my kids (if I ever have any). They should be pretty timeless and enjoyble to both of us..... (I'm not doing the voices though....) |

It's really kind of funny how the books were originally written for kids but were read by people of all ages. Their publicist did a great job there. I agree, they should have filmed them the LotR style. Now those were awesome movies. |

I hope this movie is better than the last. My kids (7,5,4) want to see it but I am thinking they will have to wait until after I preview it. I looks too scary. Do you think J.K. Rowling will write any more Harry Potter stuff? I hope so, I miss the books coming out. It was always such fun to wait until midnight at the bookstore for the release (I know, I'm a geek!). |

I thought the same thing when my wife and I went to the last couple. I would see some families with some young kids and think to myself "this movie could be pretty traumatic to some young kids". Pretty scary stuff - I loved it, but some 4-5 year old my get scared. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince trailer Peter Jackson did JRRT's work the absolute justice it deserved. He HAD to cut stuff, yet even still, manage to at least get in references to almost everything. Plus, LOTR movies could be followed without ever having read the book, and you would get no major surprises once you read the book (okay, kinda sorta except the ending). PJ capture the spirit of Middle Earth, something very few directors could ever dream of achieving, much less execute as well as he and the crew did. I have not yet seen ONE Potter movie that came anywhere close to the genius of Peter Jackson. All that said, what I would love, love, LOVE to happen is for Rowling to rewrite all of the books. She essentially did a very large, very well publicized first novel that the whole world got to read as she wrote them. She had HUGE pressures all around. I threw down book six in absolute disgust at one point. She is a FAR better writer and storyteller than what she managed in that book. She set much higher standards for herself in the first several, which she could write, rewrite, edit, and reedit in peace. I think it would be absolutely awesome for her to consider all seven of the published works first drafts, and go back and clean them all up. Not change the story substantially, but find all the crappy passages and rework them into what she is capable of producing. And she has said fairly unequivocally (from what I've heard, which is not straight from her) that she is utterly and completely done with Harry and ready to move on. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince trailer I loved the fact that we got to live in the age of not knowing. That was so cool. Everyone from here on out will finish one book and, desperate to find out what happens next, go straight to the next book. No wondering, no speculation, no tearing apart the book(s) for clues. That was a magical time that no one will ever get again, and I enjoyed every bit of it. And I agree that it was a huge boon for literacy at all ages. Yay, marketing! |
