With all of the training, there are a lot of things that I have given up in my inaugural Triathlete year, social life, sleeping in on the weekend, lazy afternoons, but the one thing that I have trouble giving up is a cold beer at the end of the day.
What does everyone else have trouble giving up?
I don't think we should give up stuff we enjoy for this sport.
Now, I have changed my life some to accommodate the training... but I try to still have fun when the offer arises.
I love going to clubs to see DJ's when they come to town. Now I can't go see ALL of them because I have to ride or run on the weekends. I signed up for a HIM at the end of the season (2nd one ) and thus I need to get my training in.
BUT when there is one in town that I love, I will move my training schedule around so I can go see him/her. I stay out late, drink it up and have a fabulous time.
Just this week I wanted to go to happy hour after work. So I made sure to get my swim in before work. Just a trade off.
Last year I gave up a lot for Ironman training and it jaded me towards being completely consumed by it. This year I'm taking it "easy" and focusing on enjoying life and training.
