Veteran 128 in the land of hills | Subject: What's left on YOUR bucket list? Hi Everyone! I am new to the forums and the sport All my recent training has caused me to be a little more introspective and has me considering all the things I have left to do in this lifetime... So here'goes (in no particular order): -vacation in Hawai'i -take my kids to the beach for the very first time -learn what it means to truly forgive -map my family tree -learn to play guitar -learn to play piano -visit the taj mahal -compete in Olympic distance or longer - (edit) take a stab at surfing I am sure I am leaving off a few... What is left on YOUR list? Go! Edited by kc_racer 2010-09-09 12:00 PM |

Subject: RE: What's left on YOUR bucket list? Honestly, not much. Been to more countries than I care to remember. Lived in Hawaii for a couple years. Taught kids how not to kill me in Army helicopters for most of my life. Fought in a war. Been to multiple danger zones. Lived in Korea. Been SCUBA diving in a few states. Learned enough of each local language to do basic shopping and eating. Brought my sons up to be able to take care of themselves. Am doing a job I believe in for an organization that makes a difference. I'm doing an IM in November. We'll see if I make the 17 hours. Sitting in my rocking chair with my cat crashed on my ankles is my idea of an excellent vacation. Edited by DanielG 2010-09-09 12:11 PM |

Squeeze out some cute puppies. Acquire ones that have been squeezed out by others but, God knows why, really need me. Rule over an island nation. Oh, all right, maybe an iron race. An ultra for sure. The Ghost Town ultra, I think. Break a few more world records. Add a host of languages. Publish at least one of the five books I've got going. Still have really nice natural boobs when I'm almost 80, like my mom is and does. Shave my head. Go on a cruise. Visit South America. Visit Antarctica. Set a long-distance swimming record somewhere in Indonesia. Become a neuroscientist. Teach inorganic chemistry, molecular genetics, and critical writing at a university. Find a cure for something important that really screws people up in the tropics, like cerebral malaria or dengue fever. Become a radio and TV personality. Oh, and record books. Make an enormous positive difference in the quality of life for millions of people in the developing world. Maybe Indonesia. Sail around the world! Surf everywhere! Establish triathlon in Indonesia. Take Indonesian athletes into international competition. Pentathlon! Some more tattoos. So many places in the world still to visit. Get my mother's story, but more importantly, her gazillions of heartstoppingly gorgeous photographs, published. Take my mother on a Tour de Germany to visit her relatives while she still remembers, and all the places she lived during the war. Spread interminable joy through the world by means of infinite melon presses. |

Spread interminable joy through the world by means of infinite melon presses. My daughter is really into the books on CD. Harry Potter, Nancy Drew... The Inkheart series is her latest. We listened to the last one first (Inkdeath), and now have Inkspell. This one is read by Brendan Fraser, and is by FAR the best book on CD I've heard. As for melon presses... I think that's the way you're going to get those first several accomplished. |

Your daughter clearly has excellent taste, which I suspect she inherited from somewhere. You're on to me. Melon presses are the subterfuge by which I endeavor to command the universe. |

I also adore reading out loud and being read to, regardless of person or format. Your daughter clearly has excellent taste, which I suspect she inherited from somewhere. I think Nancy Drew was my favorite of all the series I read as a kid, although I also loved the Willard Price adventure series. They appear to have gone out of print which is such a pity. As for my bucket list, I struggle with this one. I have done a lot in my short 42 years. The only thing I can think of that I really want to do that I haven't done is to take a cruise or visit the Caribbean. There are many other things I'd enjoy doing but nothing I feel I absolutely must do before I die. |

I listen to a LOT of books on tape, and I am pretty sure I could do as good or better. Especially for books requiring (embarrassing) Minnesota accents... Anyway, I think that would be super fun! |

It's not that I lack goals, it's that I lack a filter for my goals so it would look something like my 4 year old scribbling all the words she knows 1,000 times in crayon. |

Sure, there are more places to see, more people to get to know, and more things to try to accomplish and a few of those will happen. Lived in Africa for 6 months when I was 10 and Norway when I was 17. |
