Caught this on Facebook: http://www.ironman.com/triathlon-news/articles/2013/06/100-worlds-slots-offered-in-muskoka.aspx#axzz2W0Tjtf00

IRONMAN 70.3 Muskoka will offer 100 qualifying slots to the 2014 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Mont-Tremblant.

So those of you racing this year have an even better shot ...

Thoughts?

I think there are going to be an awful lot of fast people, especially coming out of Quebec, for this year's race. It will likely be the most competitve it's been in the past few years since Tremblant is hosting the WC next year. Guys will need to be going sub 5hrs on a course where that number is a bit rare - although they did make the run easier this year and times should be a bit quicker.

I did Muskoka 70.3 in 2011. How much different is the new run course in terms of hills? Looking at past years results you should be good to get a sport for MT with a 5:15 time.

You were right. Tons of very good athletes from Quebec showed up and made this race the most competitive of the three years that I raced it. And yes, you needed a sub 5 hrs finish to get one of the spots for MT, at least in my age group. I was 19 minutes faster than in 2011 and still placed behind in the overall and age group ranks.

Neil, You called that bang-on. It seems like every competative tri-club from QC was there. I improved my finishing time by 15min (over 2009) but my AG and overall ranking were worse.

But a beautiful day, beautiful course and well orginized event.

I just read nathethomas2000's race report.  He came up to earn a WC spot and went 4:44 - I can't even imagine going that fast.  Seriously crazy fast guys this year.

I have a pain deep in my calf about five inches below the knee. A sports doctor did not feel anything wrong in the muscle, and there was no bruising. The tender spot can still be felt on massage.

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?
