Subject: 7.8.17 Super Dee Duper Saturday! Hey gang! Two races down and one to go! Race 1 @ 7pm last night : Temp--Vegas set a high of 116--it was hot! The course was out and back with a few hills but really rough terrain. I placed 5th overall female--lol! My time was 47:51--not too bad in that kind of heat. I actually felt great--the heat didn't bother me so much. I was well hydrated and fueled on protein, fat and some carbs in the form of sweet potatoes. I had water and salt along, but didn't need the salt at all--just took in water during the run. Felt great and finished up while the sun was setting--the trail was in The Valley of Fire--gorgeous! Race 2 @ 7am this morning: Big surprise--it was hot! 97 at the start. Bigger group this morning for sure. I placed 8th or 9th overall female and once again felt great! The heat was not an issue--besides just being hot. My time this morning was 48:00--and this course was harder--much longer and steeper climbs but the terrain wasn't as difficult as last night. Same fueling strategy pre race--some protein, fat and sweet potatoes around 5am--all I needed on course was my water and I was good to go! Beautiful course again--felt like home running in the desert mountains of Lake Mead Rec Area. So race 3 is tonight at 7pm! Plan to lay low today, get in a few naps, eat and prepare to race again! I'm sure by tonight we'll be well into the triple digits! My fancy Jeep screen keeps giving me an 'Excessive Heat Warning' when I'm driving. I'm like 'no $hit!' Have a great Saturday peeps! I'm having a ball!
