Hey gang!  Two races down and one to go!

Race 1 @ 7pm last night :  Temp--Vegas set a high of 116--it was hot!  The course was out and back with a few hills but really rough terrain.  I placed 5th overall female--lol!  My time was 47:51--not too bad in that kind of heat.  I actually felt great--the heat didn't bother me so much. I was well hydrated and fueled on protein, fat and some carbs in the form of sweet potatoes.  I had water and salt along, but didn't need the salt at all--just took in water during the run.  Felt great and finished up while the sun was setting--the trail was in The Valley of Fire--gorgeous!

Race 2 @ 7am this morning:  Big surprise--it was hot!  97 at the start.  Bigger group this morning for sure.  I placed 8th or 9th overall female and once again felt great!  The heat was not an issue--besides just being hot.  My time this morning was 48:00--and this course was harder--much longer and steeper climbs but the terrain wasn't as difficult as last night.  Same fueling strategy pre race--some protein, fat and sweet potatoes around 5am--all I needed on course was my water and I was good to go!   Beautiful course again--felt like home running in the desert mountains of Lake Mead Rec Area.

So race 3 is tonight at 7pm!  Plan to lay low today, get in a few naps, eat and prepare to race again!  I'm sure by tonight we'll be well into the triple digits! My fancy Jeep screen keeps giving me an 'Excessive Heat Warning' when I'm driving.  I'm like 'no $hit!'

Have a great Saturday peeps!  I'm having a ball!

Dam that's a steep hill Kim -- looks like you're almost on a vertical incline in some of those shots.     I honestly don't know how you can do anything in that kind of heat.  Good luck with tonight's race!  The excessive heat warning from your Jeep is pretty hilarious.  Reminds me of the DEFCON 1 low temperature warning I got from our SUV when I was heading up to the ski slopes.  The warning is more distracting than any road condition you might face, although the guy in the Mercedes who piled into the snow bank at the side of the road could have probably used some sort of warning from his car to not drive like a complete dumbazz in those conditions.

I ran yesterday for an hour around 4:30 AM and felt pretty warm already.   Opted not to bring a light and almost ran into someone else on the trail when I was doing a downhill sprint at one point.  Ooops.  Today I bagged the group ride because it was just too flipping warm already when I stepped outside at 7:30am.  Instead, I opted to sit on the stationary in the garage and do an hour of intervals with three fans pointed on me, followed by a leap into my backyard pool.  Boy did that feel good afterwards.

Awesome! That is, indeed, a whole lot of bad-assery
Good luck tonight.

For me, I have a long swim today.

Oh man that's so cool! Snap I may have to do this race next year. I'm going to have to look up what the course was in valley of fire. I ran there last year after my trans Zion run and loved it, but yea, totally hot. Kick arse on your final leg Kim.7 mile run with my favorite running group this morning on my favorite trail.

Great stuff, Kim! The Valley of Fire is amazing, although I've only cycled there. Definitely some big climbs. 6:00 - 45' ride on the trainer with some high cadence stuff. I had my garage door open, but there was no air circulation. My clothes looked like I had been swimming. Have a good weekend!

You are officially a desert animal! Good luck with the last race and stay cool LOL!

Beautiful weather here in Oregon--sunny and not too hot, not too cool. Rode 3:16 (no idea how far--I don't have my Garmin on my road bike, and forgot to ask) with the local bike club on a really nice, somewhat hilly route that ended with a brand new bike trail through our sister city back to town.
