What is the history or rational behind draft legal races?

I would never want to race in such an event.

just so you know triathlons started as draft legal races... you can do some search online and find out the roots and history of Tris which is not IM btw. And it is ok to not want to race draft legal races, they are not for eveyone and there aren't many in the US. (they are more popular on other countries). Pretty much your only chance to race one would be for you to become a pro first and then qualify to be even considered in a ITU cup race

Thanks.  Based on your broader knowledge of the triathlon, can you share what you think about draft legal races?

I think they would be a blast to do - a combination of triathlon and bike racing!  I would think it would work better as a team event (thinking of the few crits I have done).  I was actually surprised in the olympics to not see teams working together more on the bike....

I have heard rumor that there are some AG draft legal races....I am probably going to put clip on aerobars on my road bike with the intention of eventually seeking one out....or traveling to do one!

Because that assumes everyone comes out of the water at the same time and makes the front pack.  That rarely happens.  Outside of the Olympics it is also a true solitary event without teams as well, so everyone out for themselves.
