So, I'd like to buy my wife some earrings.  "M" shaped gold studs with a small diamond as the "Dot".

Is there anywhere else to get them beside Big Island?  They are way, way, way overpriced IMO.

Good question! They are overpriced for sure! I personally hadn't seen any other places. Maybe someone has? Did you check the IM store online? I know they started selling some M dot jewelry that was less expensive, but the quality was less too (not real gold/silver/etc.).

Big Island holds the patent I think.  You could probably get a local independent jeweler to make what you want.  Milestones jewelry (internet based company) Has some triathlon stuff, pedants, bracelets etc but I dont'  think they have earrings

if you want to Mdot, others are probably right about someone holding the rights to produce - but I know when I was at B2B in October, there was a lady there who did jewelry for triathletes - I think I saw earrings on her stuff - I'll see if I can find her info - maybe she'll have an alternative to the mucho-expensive

I guess I'll just take a pattern to a local jeweler and ask them to price it out.  It's just an M with a diamond.  If their vendor was only charging anything even close to reasonable...

Is she the type that likes to show off her IM status?  If so, they might be good.  I don't know, not my style I suppose.

If you are going to invest in something like that, I would probably make it something more versatile.  What is the occasion to wear diamond incrusted IM brand earrings?  It would be a shame to have something nicely made with expensive stones that sat in a box because there is not appropriate time to wear them.  Too expensive to wear with sports wear or casual wear, and too "name brandy" to wear for formal events.

If it were ME doing it, I would do something subtle that represents triathlon.  Maybe three stones, blue for water, black for bike (pavement) and green for running.  Maybe set in some kind of colored metal that represented the colors of the race (IMAZ was sort of gold and burgundy).  That way, she can wear them for more events, and you CREATED something original, not copied a logo.  Plus then she can tell the story of how they came to be when women ask her about them (and they will - It's weird how often the wife get's comments from strangers about earrings or shoes or bags or something).

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?
