Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey, wondering if you all can help me with this... I'm trying to plan our wedding, which I'm not particularly good at, and trying to think about music right now. We've got a group with a cello, violin, 2 guitars, and a flute. Fabulous vocalists of both sexes. Some stuff we were thinking about was: Pachabel Canon in D, Ave Maria, The Wedding Song (Paul Stokey, Dad wants this one in there), Grow Old with Me (Mary Chapin-Carpenter). We also were thinking about ending with something upbeat, kicky, unexpected and perhaps a little goofy. I was thinking "Not Fade Away", but Eric doesn't seem to be such a fan of that choice, though he loves the song. So, I'm just hoping for suggestions for that last song, and whatever else you think is nice for a wedding, without being gawdawful cheesy. Also, is there something appropriate you can think of from a Billie Holiday or Etta James-type female blues/jazz singer? My good friend is going to sing and she sounds like an angeol on anything, but she really slays songs like that. |

Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If you really want to shake things up a bit, play this Avett Brothers song. The lyrics don't do it justice (at all), but you can listen to a bit and get a feel on I-Tunes. Talk of Indolence 'm a little nervous about what you'll think when you see me in my swimming trunks and last night in New York I got raging drunk, remember one time I got raging drunk with you I can recall a time when we made the city streets our playground, kissing in the fountains filled with cigarettes and bottles, sped through Italian city streets of cobblestone because we had to Now I've grown to aware of my mortality to let go and froget about dying long enough to drop the hammer down and let the indolence go wild and flying through |

Science Nerd ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As a musician who's played at tons of weddings, can I be the first to say don't play Pachabel Canon? It's really overdone and most musicians hate playing it because they have to play it so much. There's tons of really pretty music that you could use instead, such as Handel's Water Music, Delibes' Flower Duet (from an opera Lakme), etc. I know some people love Pachabel, but like I said, I think it's really overdone at weddings. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yeah, I think the Pachabel Canon is ok, but it's Eric's pick. Getting him to decided anything about the wedding is like pulling teeth. So when he volunteers something like that, I'm a little hesitant to shoot it down. I was thinking about having them play it before the wedding when folks are showing up and getting settled.... |

Hang in there. |

LOL! The lyrics would have to be... "because I met you at the bar/ because I was drunk enough to hit on you/ because my sister thought swimming the fountain would be a good idea/because whatever at all" |

![]() | ![]() I don't know if this is the type of song you are looking for, but my wife and I played this song at our wedding from the (don't laugh) of One Fine Day, cheesy chick flick with whas his face and Michelle Pfeiffer (yum). The Glory of Love - Keb Mo'. It's quirky and a little upbeat. I'm sure you can find a sample on the internet at Amazon or something like that. Our dance song was Unforgettable, a classic, but not so upbeat. Good luck, music for stuff like this is so hard to ask for help on because 99% of it will be totally off the mark, to your tastes. I hope someone hits a bullseye for you. |

But, come on, I'm twenty-freakin'-five. I don't think it's been a particularly long wait for me to find the man of my dreams. |

Buttercup ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's not a song about endurance dating, Kim! Come one... work with me! It's expansively romantic and slightly obsessive/possessive. Perfect for a wedding! At last |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I dunno, I guess I just always thought of it as a song for someone who found their match later in life, or after some hardship or stumbling block in love, like a divorce or something. It's still a fabulous song.... |

Buttercup ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Noooooooo... it's a song about a woman who has pathetically pined and pined and pined for a man to come along and make her life complete, so she can finally know what it is to be happy. Then she latches on to him and he is hers, at last, finally, permanently. There's no escape. Perfect wedding song. You could also go with the highly obsessive "Every Breath You Take" by the Police. My money's on Ode to Joy and you've GOT to see "Love Actually" to see how WONDERFULLY performed All You Need is Love is. It made me want to run out and have a wedding. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 'In my life" by Beatles. Not Bette Midler's version cus' I find it a tad sad. Oh and the soundtrack of "My Best Friend's Wedding" got a couple of good songs in it. Such as "I say a little prayer" and "The way you look tonight". And believe it or not, I actualy find Sinatra's "Fly me to the moon" to be a great wedding song. ![]() |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What about Billie Holiday's "Come Rain or Come Shine"? I can't say I've been to that many weddings in my day. Is it overplayed at weddings? |
![]() ![]() |
Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I second Only One by James Taylor. Here are two songs from our wedding that would sound great in the church too. If Not For You by Bob Dylan and Farther on Down the Road (you will accompnay me) by Taju Mahal. That was actually the last song we danced to at the reception. If not for you, Babe, I couldn't find the door, Couldn't even see the floor, I'd be sad and blue, If not for you. If not for you, Babe, I'd lay awake all night, Wait for the mornin' light To shine in through, But it would not be new, If not for you. If not for you My sky would fall, Rain would gather too. Without your love I'd be nowhere at all, I'd be lost if not for you, And you know it's true. If not for you My sky would fall, Rain would gather too. Without your love I'd be nowhere at all, Oh! What would I do If not for you. If not for you, Winter would have no spring, Couldn't hear the robin sing, I just wouldn't have a clue, Anyway it wouldn't ring true, If not for you. Farther On Down The Road - Taj Mahal Taj mahal - Farther On Down The Road Farther on down the road (you will accompany me) Farther on down the road You will accompany me Farther on down the road You will accompany me When I think back Your love was like the sun I don´t remember no cold days I just remember the warm ones Farther on down the road You will accompany me If a fusing life that I´d had before I would rather be But baby, I´d be glad to learn from you And I know you´d be glad to learn from me And if we get down And things get sad We can tear up each other ´Cause things just ain´t that bad If a fusing life that I´d had before I´d rather be (--- Solo ---) Day by day, just one step Just one step I´d to turn (???) ´Cause woman you have given me so much Just an easy stub in your aching heart on mine I don´t care where we came from And I don´t care what they might say Woman you be loving in my corner Oh oh oh all the way Day by day, and the magic of kindness Floating all the time Farther on down the road You will accompany me Farther on down the road You will accompany me Oh babe Oh baby Oh baby Oh baby Farther on down the road You will accompany me |
