I've made toad in the hole for the former BF (aussie). I don't get the appeal. I thought it was gross. Now, yorkshire pudding I like; I'll continue making that. Oh, and he said my pavlova was better than his mother ever made. Natch (yeah, we Yanks say natch too, not unlike sitch for situation, etc.).

I was at a party filled with aussies and they were discussing aussie slang - prezzies for presents, brekkie for breakfast, etc., and an American gal said "Oh, it's like baby talk." The room went silent. I had to leave the room as I was struggling to suppress my laughter.

Mmmm. Vegemite, haggis, toad-in-the-hole... Makes me hungry for a pie floater. Ick. Although I do wish I could get a good Barra fush & chups now & then.

What about "flat out like a lizard drinking"?
Does this mean you're really busy since a lizard would be really thirsty or not busy since a lizard doesn't get to drink much?

Wow, took me a while to latch on to this thread, just checking your logs Chris and saw Mel had put a note in saying she'd started this thread, good stuff Mel!!  Can't say I've ever had a big thing for toad - in the hole but mmmm Pav is all good.  Do you guys eat Promite?  Its like the Aussie version of Vegemite/Marmite, heaps yummier!  (Ooh, can I say that since I'm a NZ er not an Aussie) hehe, what a traitor :-)

Chris thats exactly it everything here is shortened coz were too laid back to say the whole word.  Everyone's name is shortened  ie, Bazza Shazza Gazza (do you get the pattern )

And guys if you ever come down under don't be talking about Bonking or rooting for your team coz it definately has a diff meaning here ]

eww Toad in the hole is soo not an aussie thing you poms can keep it all to yourselves,  I'll keep my vegemite and tim tams.   Kelly can you guys get Tim tams over there?

The in-laws just returned from Sydney with a load of lollies for the kids. The Cherry Ripe is all mine.

And Kelly, saying something is "heaps yummier" than Vegemite is like saying a liquid is more thirst quenching than gasoline/petrol. It may be true, but that's no reason to actually ingest it.

Drew it means doing someone really fast.  Desert Lizards don't get to drink very often and when they do its superfast in case the water dries up.  (at least thats what I've always though it meant)

hehe that makes me think of "Dry as a dead dingos donga" (sorry thats a bit rude )

and one of my favs I'm proud to be a Sunny sandgroper (someone from West Aust)

nope Vegemite is the only one!  Promite and Marmite are just inferior substitutes lol
