I dunno. Looks really tempting. I've been side lined for 2 yrs due to chronic injury without any serious training after having done 2 IM's. Do you think it be possible to lose 25 lbs & get in all the requisite training & build up in the next 10 months? It kinda seems like a gamble of $700.

General entry is still open.  I'm still on the fence about registration.  I still don't feel like ironman material yet.  I've increasing bike & run mileage while losing weight.  I don't know how long I can delay & still get in.

Oops - just realized 30 week Fink plan started today! Thought I had another week of laziness. Fortunately, this is only a rest day and I managed to get in a short easy swim so I'm ahead of the game.

My 3rd as well, and my age bracket (only I'm with the girls!). Trust me though, the old folks are meaner! Crochety old bats!

Not really.  If one can recover well, it's a good situation.  Train once and race twice.  My ideal time between IM's would be 4-6 weeks with 5 weeks being perfect.  Race, rest completely for a week, bike and swim only for another week, two weeks of normal workouts, race week #2.

I'm doing 7 weeks between Couer d'Alene and Mont-Tremblant this year and I really wish it was a week or two less.  I contemplated doing IMCdA, IMCan and IMMT this year which would be three IM's in 7 weeks.  Train once, race three times.  I just can't take three weeks off work in a seven week timeframe.

I am turning 45 in a week, so I will be entering the 45-49 age group.

I am doing this race then 8 weeks later I am doing IM Lake Tahoe. I was wondering if 8 weeks was to long or to short between Ironmans. I guess I will find out.

Just started getting back into structured training this week.

45-49 AG? I'd recommend going really slow in Canada so you can save yourself for Tahoe ;-)

In. Signed up in October, this will be my first, and likely last IM.

:D

Need to get this done so my soul can one day rest in peace.

Training is going well.

Some questions for you folks who have raced Whistler: wheelset. Am I better off going as light as possible, i.e.: a custom built wheelset, or am I better off bringing a deep rim set, like the Dura-Ace?

Opinions?

I'm leaning towards a hot set of ubber light wheels, for climbing gains, but would love to hear from the peanut gallery.

Hello all.  I'm in!  This will be my 3rd IM.  I volunteered in the med tent last year and told them the only way that they will see me next race is if they come out and see me.

I'm also interested in gear as I will be looking to purchase a new bike this year.  Thoughts or suggestions?

Happy training everyone!

Bring the most aero setup you have.  I rode an 808 + 900 (disc) clinchers in Tahoe, no regrets.  Aero trumps weight, by a big margin.

I'll have to look for you out there.  I was looking at your 2012 splits -- very close to mine.  In fact, I "passed" you in T2 for a 40 second lead and then you beat me on the run by a couple minutes

Really?

I'm still most deffinitely on the fence here...Whistler is a hilly, hilly course, but maybe Tahoe is, too? Dunno.

That being said, there may be a best-of-both worlds solution out there...

Agree with the other poster.  You're not climbing the Alpe d'Huez or anything.  Aero trumps weight on every IM race in N. America.

The climbing at Whistler is not all that sustained with the exception of the 20 miles back from Pemberton to Whistler.  Remember that Whistler to Pemberton is basically 20 miles downhill, followed by a 35 mile flat TT.

IM Canada held the crown as the hardest N. American IM bike course after they nerfed the Cabo course.  That title was very short lived as the Tahoe course was even harder than Whistler.

Byrn won’t hold your hand through the long hours and miles required finishing or for success in an IM, he can only show you how to get there. The work is up to you.
