First annual Tri Fort Worth. Both the half and full distance triathlons. I went ahead and signed up so I might as well start a group.

I signed up for this today. It works perfectly as my first race to travel to since the start is about 20 minutes from my parents house. Now to find a good deal on airline tickets because I am not driving for 2 long days to get there!

I took the google map and put in RidewithGPS to see the elevation. Lots of hills out there my friends.

Thanks for posting the elevation, looks to be a fair amount less than IM Couer d'Alene, the only full I have done, hard to tell but I don't see any long "steep" grades?

I wonder what the 70.3 will look like?

I've been eyeing this one. Anyone have any idea on how many participants? Not much activity on their Facebook page.

I haven't seen anything, they only post on rare occasion about anything, I did see they have a new sponsor, that's about it.

Race schedule posted to include packet pickup and the like. They say on their Facebook page that there have been a lot of registrations lately and they started the week with about 480 registered athletes.

Thanks for the info! Still eyeing this one. I saw where one place the bike course (for the full ) was flat and another where it said it was "hill?" Anyone have any insight as to if it will be wetsuit legal? I'm thinking regardless, it will be hot.

Based off the bike route on their website here's some numbers:

Distance: 111.7 miles
Minimum Elevation: 535 feet
Maximum Elevation: 1049 feet
Total climb: 1999 feet
Total descent: 2094 feet

I don't consider 2000 feet of climbing elevation over 112 miles very significant. I would assume it will be rolling hills like most of North Texas. We drive up and down I-35W from South FW to Denton all the time and rolling hills. I plan on driving the route at some point in the near future and I'll give a report.

Normally I would say the odds are very good it will be wetsuit legal. But Feb. is on track to break a warm record.

Again, thanks. I live in a very flat area, but that doesn't sound bad at all. How's the training going? My biggest week so far is about 11 hours of slowness l, but I'm feeling good. Good luck!

Looks like it will be a decent course, not very challenging hill wise on either the half or the full. I live around lots of hills, train on the IM Couer d'Alene course since it's so close to my house, hopefully it will clear up enough weather wise here to get outside before race day, otherwise it's going to be all trainer miles leading up to this race.

My training is going very well, I am doing the half and am in the 6-8 hour or per week range. Good luck to all!

I want to pull the trigger and sign up, but can't get there until Saturday. The Athletes guide doesn't mention packet pick up Saturday, and i can't get them to answer whether or not they will let me pick it up then.

No. Lol. I want to wait just a while longer to make a decision on the half vs the full. I have never done a full and want to see if i can get through the bigger weeks injury free(ish). I love the training regardless. Will decide soon though. Best of luck to you!

There sure is a big difference between the two, in training and the actual race, or at least that's been my experience! I am doing the half, I decided no full distance this year and I want to be done early and then be able to watch my wife finish and hang out with family later in the day. I love the training too. Thanks you too!

I hear ya Smithe, and I'm not taking it lightly. For the full, my only goal would be to finish.

I assume you all who've signed up received the email about BASE Performance being the sponsor for the triathlon? Here's the email:

Hello Tri Fort Worth Athletes!

Tri Fort Worth is pleased to announce that Base Performance has been chosen as our Sponsor for on course nutrition. Base Electrolyte Salt and Base Hydro will be throughout the bike and run course and Base Amino will also be available on the run course.

We strongly suggest our athletes train with the Base line of products and Base Performance is offering a 20% discount for Tri Fort Worth participants.  The discount is valid for the products available on the course on race day, Base Electrolyte Salt, Base Hydro, and Base Amino.  Please visit the website www.baseperformance.com for the full line of available products. Your discount code for 20% off is trifortworth17.

I went ahead and ordered both to starting training with. It was actually a little cheaper using the discount from their website than other sites I found. But I can't find anywhere that has either product premixed. Not sure what they're actually be handing up on the bike route.

I have to admit about the same here. I'm getting my swim, bike, run workouts in for most part but failing with the strength and core training. I plan on some gym time between now and tapper. Hang in there we're getting close!

The temps have been manageable this year but now the March winds are showing up in force!

You know, I've been doing this stuff for about six years now (on and off, mostly on), but have never focused on the core much. As I've upped my swimming, i am really seeing the need for it. Yes, the winds are here! Speaking of that, any idea on how the winds will be come race day? I got in a 12 mile run in today, but man, I'm feeling the fatigue. Four hour bike tomorrow for me, hoping for 65+ miles. We'll see.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
