Congrats to the voters of Maryland, Maine and Minnesota for popular votes forward in marriage equality. I have a friend who is a full time organizer for a national marriage quality organization. She has been in Maine for most of this year. After a couple setback votes, this cycle was a winner for the movement. I think the tide is turning. If a party would emerge that is truly socially liberal and fiscally conservative, like so many here express, and so many of my real-life peers also favor, you'd have a true juggernaut of political power. And no, for some reason the current liberarian party isn't going to be it.

I was gonna start this thread: Maine, Maryland, and Minnesota on Marriage. Would have been more eye catching

Happy to see parts our nation take another step away from restriction of rights.

Does an upside down M count? Washington should pass it too.

Woo-hoo Minnesota!  The group Minnesotans for Families United did an awesome job with education around this amendment.

I was surprised to learn while watching the results on the news last night that blank votes counted as no votes.  Of course Minnesotans for Families United didn't point this out (don't blame them), but that should have been a campaign point for the Vote Yes people.  Oops.    I have to look to see if this made a big difference, but I like to think the people who didn't vote are kicking themselves now.

That's an upside-down M, so it counts too.

Washington certainly does count! While it has not been called yet it is looking very good. So happy for all of my gay friends in cmoted relationships being able to marry finally.

They can celebrate with their pot brownies

I thought that the no vote = vote no issue was fairly well communicated beforehand...all the news outlets went over what it meant, and there were signs at the polling places.

I DO think the vote-yes folks could have hammered that point a little harder...but then again, to what effect? The people who are already listening to them will have voted yes. The people who aren't listening are voting no or not voting, so why spend the money on people who aren't listening.

And, of course, there's the whole notion that they took a "deliberately low-key approach" to their marketing (the Strib's phrasing, not mine). I guess they figured when you are advocating a position that is perceived by many to be extremely self-centered and narrow-minded at best, and bigoted and hate-filled at worst, low-key is the way to go...

I was happy to see it pass here in Maine.  The numbers didn't look promising when we went to bed last night and I was a disappointed.  It was a nice piece of good news this morning.
