Subject: What's a good recovery supplement?

Has anyone tried Endurox?  A person at a local store here recommended it.  I'm looking for something to help recover after a race or hard day of training?  What do you find works best for you, and how often do take the supplement?  Are there certain foods that would be good to use instead of a supplement?

Right now I am using Endorox after my workouts, I switch it up with Accelerade, to me they taste ok. These are popular with endurance athletes. It is important to get some simple carbs and protien in your body after races and workouts to replace glycogen stores and repair muscle tissue. I do also like protien smoothies where I can add fruit and carbs as I choose(blueberries, rasberries, peaches, banana, yogurt, etc.)just be sure to use vinilla protien. Also some people prefer just chocolate milk.

I love the orange Endurox. I can tell the next day when I do take it because my legs aren't still feeling like jello.

I make Endurox shakes after my major rides, and I usually have a glass of Endurox after my runs.  To make my Endurox shakes, here's what I include:

ice
orange juice
one banana
one cup of blueberries
two scoops of Endurox (fruit punch)

I don't know specific quantities for the ice and orange juice... I just blend them until it looks right.  It's a basic recipe, but it tastes great and helps me recover better than expected!

For all the coffee lovers, this is what I use:
2 scoops of Chocolate Endurox
2 teaspoons of instant coffee
Mix with 12-14 oz. of cold water, ice cubes, and mix in blender!

I bike before breakfast, so I eat a bowl of Raisin Bran for my recovery in the a.m.

In the p.m. I always eat Fig Newtons for recovery. I drink a huge glass of distilled water with them. They seem to be enough fuel for my early morning rides.

I tried many different products last year traiing for IMKY and found Endurox to be the best post workout drink for me. Believe it or not Chocolate Milk is just as good! Accelerade, on the other hand, is more of a "during workout" drink as it replaces electrolytes ect.  Really drinks like Accelerade aren't needed unless you're going longer than 1 hr. workouts. Anything under an hour and water is just fine to stay hydrated

Bottom line is theres mnay different products just like the 2 named, so it may be trial and error to see what you can stomach/ tastes best and helps you recover quicker. Of course the best solution is always eat a well balanced diet

Skip the supplements and just enjoy a glass of milk and have a nice sandwich with some lead proteins. Works fantastic as a recovery meal.

I GOOGLED and searched and read for days on this, and study after study said that Chocolate milk and peanut butter sandwiches is as good or better than any "supplement" for recovery that's out there. Cheaper too!....I'm like some lab rat during my workout, cause I KNOW what my reward will be! Sometimes I substitute a starbucks mocha for my chocolate milk...if I'm leaving the gym. Mmmm. mmmmm. good!

I really enjoy a cool refreshing endurox tangy orange after long runs or rides. lately I have been trying the chocolate milk after short runs and rides and it works for me! When I run out of endurox, I'll try the chcoclate milk after long runs and rides, but knowing that cool endurox is waiting for me.....

Endurox Orange. Sometimes I'll throw a little milk in too. Tastes just like a Creamsicle.

After that, PB & Banana sandwich on whole grain bread.

I've been using Endurox for about 1.5-2 years now and feel its a phenominal product. It definitly does everything thats advertised for me.

Ill do 1 serving everyday I workout (6 days a week).. all of my workouts are at least an hr though.

I've had weeks where Ill run out and I DEFINITLY feel a difference when i do continous days...

Chocolate and the red one are my favs.

About 10 ounces of 2% chocolate milk for me! I read the study as well in Triathlete or the USAT quarterly, I forget which one. They (no, I don't know who they are) did a study comparing atheletes using various supplements and chocolate milk and they found no significant difference between the results. I have been drinking chocolate milk after hard workouts ever since. Seems to work and certainly saves a few bucks.

+1

I use Endurox during and after heavy weight training. Have not tried it with endurance training.

I hit the chocolate milk every now and then.  Peanut butter, too.  Right now I do a protein shake using whey and I add a tablespoon of glutamine.

Here is another more recent article touting the benefits of chocolate milk as a recovery supplement.

Chocolate milk and peanut butter sandwiches as recovery fuel, no wonder my kids can go non-stop all the time.  I will definitly experiment with this on my next long runs and rides.

It seems that the majority of reports show that they are comparing C_Milk to standard sports drinks like Gatorade. Gatorade does not have protein

Studies have shown for some time that a Carb:Protein ratio of 3-4:1 is best for recovery. No wonder C-Milk is doing better than a carb only beverage. Moreover, you do not see the dairy association promoting C-Milk based on studies with the various 3:1 recovery supplements;Only sports drinks.

Does using chocolate syrup mixed into skim milk *really* provide the same benefits as drinking chocolate milk that is pre-mixed??? I've always wondered this. Seems like just adding the syrup alone, wouldn't equal the same carb/protein ratio as in the premixed gallon jugs of chocolate milk. Has anyone ever actually compared the carb/protein ratio of the two? I find the chocolate syrup variety lacks the thickness and creaminess of REAL chocolate milk. Just sayin....

I was wondering the same thing. I usually make my chocolate milk using 1% and the kids Nesquick syrup (I figure it has some added vitamins) The stuff that comes pre-made seems a lot more chocolatey than I make it.
