I am Taffle, 21 years of age and a passionate mountain biker, runner, and swimmer just now entering what I like to call "T0", I want to be a triathlete. I post my introduction here, because well, this gets more hits right? So, moderators, respect my bending the rules a bit by asking everyone out there: how old were you when you faced T0 and decided to start training for your first tri? Went from being 65 pound overweight to completing 3 sprints my first year and it has snowballed from there. Now I can't image going more than a day without swimming, biking, or running (or a combo of the three). I have done 35 tris, several Duathlons, 6 marathons, 8 HIM and 2 IM at the ripe old age of 38. I'm still not fast but I have fallen in love with this sport and lifestyle. Enjoy the ride! |

I was getting ready to retire from the Navy Reserve, and put the semiannual physical fitness test behind me. I figured if I didn't have something to train for I'd never work out and blow up like a balloon. Ironically, tri training has gotten me in better shape than I ever was in the Navy. | Extreme Veteran 700 Tucson | Subject: RE: How old were you when you decided to train to be a triathlete? 24 when my friend put the idea in my head, my husband indirectly made it a challenge and I hired a personal trainer to help get rid of that 30 lbs I gained as pre-wedding/wedding/1st yr weight. Did my first tri @ 25. Got 2 tris, a 66 mile bike race and a half mary on the plate for the rest of the year. Oh and maybe some mtn bike sweeping. Other than a slightly damaged self, I'm loving what I'm seeing. |

I was always fascinated by the whole Ironman thing and always wondered if I could do it. It wasn't until I was 29 when I did my first olympic tri and since then, I've had a blast. |
