I hope they have a followup to this story....

The interview with the witness is riveting.

And the freakazoid was so fast in his stabbing, gutting and beheading that no one could possibly have interrupted him????? That's nuts. I can't believe some guy is screaming and no one thinks to whack the lunatic with a piece of luggage???? Must've been quite some group-think crowd mentality going on there. That is WEIRD!

I'm gonna take a quick guess that everybody assumed the victim was already dead. Doesn't take much to kill someone stabbing them in the neck with a butcher knife. Besides, when something that off the charts and bloody happens without context, 99% of people are just going to freeze.

Freak - "Dude thats my armrest! If you put your arm there again I am going to cut of your head!"

Victim - "Ok man I am sorry. You can have it"

*Victim falls alseep arm falls on armrest again*

Freak - "Ok I warned you"

Sounds like everyone just ran off the bus and left him to do his business on the guy. Then two guys tiptoe back over to check on the victim. Don't think there were any heroes on that bus that day.

I don't think a gun would have helped the guy that was sleeping.

Common sense, bro? Large blade designed to chop meat vs extremely fragile esophagus, jugular/carotid, and spinal cord. Even if the damage done was repairable it would have to be done before the dude either bled to death, suffocated, or the spinal cord was severed. That's either instant or a couple of minutes at the very most.

Too bad somebody didn't have a Taser.

Freak:  Hey dude, could you turn down your music of Celine Dion

Victim:  Yeah , sure ok.

Few minutes later after the victim turns the volume back up.

Freak:  Celine Dion!!!!

In which case I think the freak would have cut off his own head. Or at least ears.

That's how I read it too... And had the "WTF?" moment regarding no one intervening.

I don't have enough information to make a judgement, but I would think that it might be tough to intervene on a darkened bus during a murder where the murderer is wielding a big knife and slashing about wildly. The whole thing is horrific. I can't even begin to imagine how I would react.

Are you seriously asking for a hero at 0100 hrs on a bus heading to Manitoba?!?!? at 0100 hrs in the morning on a bus with some guy weilding a LARGE hunting knife...sorry, I'm pulling the cord and getting off at the next stop. Are you going to try to disarm some nutty guy who just stabbed someone else in the throat!? This was a NO WIN situation. You can't armchair QB a situation like this...a peak into this guys head - HE CUT THE GUYS DAMNED HEAD OFF and the carried it around!
