Ok, I am sure I am the last person to come across this amazing father and son team but I had to post here anyway. I was recently the sent this short video http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=8cf08faca5dd9ea45513 from a friend and could hardly believe what I was watching. The love that Hoyt Sr has for his son should be an inspiration to us all. If you watch this video I highly doubt you will keep a dry eye.

ya i've seen that video a couple dozens or so times and it still messes me up.   i often keep the Hoyt duo in my head when i'm having a tough day and make excuses to exercise.

no doubt in my mind the most inspirational story i've ever come across.

thanks for reminding me of them

I got and read their biography last year when my wife met them at a food trade show where they spoke.  Truly inspirational.

They ran a frickin' 2:40 marathon together!!  That is insane!!

This is the first time I've seen the video. Very very touching. I've been following the Hoyt's for a couple of years and of all of the inspirational stories to come out of Ironman Hawaii, the Hoyt's story is definitely top 3 (along with John Blaise).

To have the kind of love like they have for each other is really a gift.

I can't remember where I read this, but I believe the Hoyt's will not be doing Ironman anymore. Too bad.

X2.  I couldn't push an empty jogging stroller and run 3:40.  This guy runs 2:40 with a 130+ lb adult.

As an adult day services program instructor for people with disabilities... I am personally inspired by team Hoyt.  However, every day, I find it motivating to work with these people because just like the son inspires the father, my clients inspire me to do the best I can do.  Live life to the fullest!  That is what people with disabilities do!

The ongoing achievements of the Hoyt's and Sister Madonna are two of the really noteworthy stories of triathlon.. Hoyt could throw down a 2:40 marathon pushing his son's chair but never did a race on his own just to see how fast he might go..Something almost poetic about that.

Hoyt is father of the year X100.  However without Rick he wouldn't have known what he could do.  I just checked Timberman and it looks like Team Hoyt will be there.  I don't think there could be a bigger inspiration out on the course.

They did their first race two weeks ago. When I get faster I want to be an angel for them.

Watching this video is what got me started in triathlon and the goal of becoming and ironman.

I did a lot of reading on these guys... and believe it or not, 's wife left or divorced (not sure which) him and talks "trash" on him all the time. I watched an interview where she said does it all for the fame, and not the least bit for Rick (and even insinuated that Rick does not want to do it!). Kind of hard to believe when you see that video. If you ever watch any of the interviews and see how he looks at Rick... I don't see how anyone could call that fake.

That was touched on in the book as she was working a lot with different organizations to promote higher levels of acceptance and accessibility in all different aspects of life while Di-k H. focused more on being with his son and including him in everything he did.  She didn't agree with his approach, and he didn't care as his son relished in the experiences and said so.

I met Hoyt no mre than an hour after not making the swim time cut off in Kona (2006). He is gracious and I don't believe for a second that he is racing for publicity or any other ulterior motive other than making his son fulfilled.

I saw an interview with Team Hoyt about 15 years ago. The interviewer asked if the father had any plans to race solo. He looked at the interviewer and responded "why would I do that?"

I think about this sometimes when I need to be a better father to my kids.

Amazing indeed!  I am awestruck every time I see the Hoyts in action.  It never fails to bring a tear to my eyes.

Back when I lived in Boston, I saw them do the marathon and also the now defunct Boston Triathlon.  It was amazing to see.

I quite agree with you. It appears that you are a blessing for those you work with and in turn are blessed from your association with them.

When I first saw this a while ago, it put a lot into perspective for me.  I often think of them sprinting down the last 100yards at Kona when I feel zonked out after a 2 hour run.

They will be at Timberman next weekend.  I would love the chance to ride or run beside them for even a second-before they blow me away.
